2011 BNP Paribas Open: Recap and Records
What a great tournament!
The BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells had 350,086 fans in attendance, which breaks the official attendance record for the 36-year-old tournament (30,000 people saw it live in 1976).
Already known as the "fifth Grand Slam," it is also the fifth-most well-attended tournament in the world.
There were 2,600 seats added to the outer courts to make 17,000 total. Four practice courts added to make 16 total, and a "Super Wall" was made to allow onlookers to watch three match feeds at one time outside the courts.
Next year’s BNP Paribas Open is scheduled for March 5-18, 2012.
