Miami Heat: Chris Bosh's Defense of Cry-Gate Exposes the Team's Insecurities
"Any player who says they haven't cried over basketball, they're lying."
Those were the words uttered by Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh in a radio interview that was reported by Yahoo Sports, as he defended the recent episode of crying that took place in the Heat's locker room.
For one, I do agree thatย anyone who has ever played basketball before has shed a tear or two over the game, but those emotions are usually displayed under a special context.
During this time of year, there will be many tears shed on basketball courts and inย living rooms across America because the finality of March Madness induces that type of reaction.
It really is win or go home.
Once the teams involved in the NCAA tournament receive their walking papers there will be no more games left to play, as even the team who eventually wins it all will probably shed manyย tears of joy.
But those tears will signify a journey that has reached an ending point regardless of the conclusion, and needless to say Bosh's tears don't fit that description.
LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Bosh have absorbed plenty of criticism this season, but the weight of it may have fallen hardest on Bosh's shoulders.
At times Bosh has seemed unprepared to deal with the around-the-clock scrutiny that comes with being a member of the NBA's most celebrated trio of players since the Big Three in Boston.
All three players have faced personal demons, James has struggled with the consequences of the manner in which he left Cleveland, and Wade has faced the inevitable dilemma of who claims the role of ultimate leadership on the team.
But Bosh's comments show a lack of understanding for the situation and moment, and you have to wonder if his own reservations do not run throughout the team.
The Heat have found success in the most difficult of circumstances, but in the minds of many observers, their journey will be incomplete without a NBA championship this year.
This Heat are poised to be a legitimate threat for years to come, but I'm sure the pressure of instant postseason success weighs heavily on the hearts and minds of James, Wade and especially Bosh.
There will definitely be a time and place for Miami to shed tears, and as Bosh will learn it really only hurts when you lose or win in the postseason.
