UFC: Can Anybody Beat Jon "Bones" Jones? I Don't Think So

big ROC Stockton, CAMar 20, 2011

I'll admit, heading into last nights fight I thought Jon Jones wasn't quite ready for Mauricio Rua.  I know Jones was steamrolling his opponents but I didn't think Jones was ready for the elite just yet.  Boy did he prove me wrong.

Jon Jones overwhelmed Rua from the start of the fight to the end.  He opened the fight with a flying knee and didn't slow down until the end of the fight.  Rua didn't stand a chance against the 6'4" Jones.  When they stood next to each other for the refs instructions, Jones looked to be in an entirely different weight class.  He towered over Rua and the reach advantage was too much for Rau to overcome.

Mauricio literally had to run towards Jones to try and beat him to the punch.  Rua planned on using leg strikes but when he tried, Jones countered with blinding speed and would catch him with a strike to the head.  Rua had no answer for Jones.  Even when the commentators were saying, "Never count out the heart of a champion,"  it was clearly evident that Rua was no match for Jones.

Jon "Bones" Jones had it right when he broke down the fight.  He said he was too big, too fast and too new school for Rua.  Jones is of the new breed of fighters.  He is a world class athlete that happens to be a fighter.  He has the body of an National Football League wide receiver or a shooting guard in the National Basketball Association.  He has the athletic ability to be great at any sport.  He just happened to choose Mixed Martial Arts.

All this led me to wonder if there is anybody out there in the world of MMA that can beat Jon Jones.  Rua got dismantled and looked like a fighter that was out of his league, and he was the Champion.  The other top light-heavyweights are Rampage Jackson, Lyoto Machida and of course Rashad Evans who is next in line for the great young champ.

I just can't see anybody beating Jones.  It's just like he said himself.  He's too big, too fast and too new school for anybody in the world of MMA right now.  The only guy that can hang with Jones, in my opinion, would be Anderson Silva.  The Spider said he didn't want to move up to 205 lbs because his good friend Machida was the champ and that he had too much respect for Rua to fight him.

Well there's no more excuses.  Anderson Silva has to move up and challenge Jones for the LHW Belt.

What do you think?
