UFC 128 Results: What's Next for the Losers?

Tim McTiernanJun 7, 2018

On Saturday night, 11 men unhappily left the Prudential Center, and 11 men left the Octagon with one more loss on their records.

Raphael Assuncao lost via KO.

Constantinos Philipou lost via unanimous decision.

Ian Loveland lost via unanimous decision.

Kurt Pellegrino lost via split decision.

Ricardo Almeida lost via unanimous decision.

Anthony Njokuani lost via unanimous decision.

Eliot Marshall lost via TKO.

Mirko Cro Cop lost via TKO.

Dan Miller lost via unanimous decision.

Kamal Shalorus lost via TKO.

Eddie Wineland lost via unanimous decision.

Mauricio Rua lost via TKO.

It is never too early to start speculation for their next fights, so here are some early guesses on what's next for the losers at UFC 128.

Raphael Assuncao

1 of 12

Assuncao lost via KO in the first round to Erik Koch.

Next up for him could be the loser of Michihiro Omigawa and Darren Elkins.

Constantinos Philipou

2 of 12

Constantinos Philipou took his fight on short notice and hoped to get his shot in the UFC.

Unfortunately, he lost, so most likely he will be going back to the regional circuit.

Ian Loveland

3 of 12

Ian Loveland lost via unanimous decision to the No. 2 bantamweight in the world. Nothing to be ashamed of.

Up next for Loveland could be the loser of Leonard Garcia-Chan Sung Jung.

Kurt Pellegrino

4 of 12

Kurt Pellegrino was defeated via split decision by Gleison Tibau.

Kamal Shalorus also lost on the card, so maybe he could be up next. Another option would be the loser of Dunham-Sotiropoulos fight, if they wanted to challenge him. Or maybe even Anthony Njokuani.

Ricardo Almeida

5 of 12

Ricardo Almeida has not been very consistent. He lost to Matt Hughes, beat TJ Grant and then last night lost to Mike Pyle.

Up next for Almeida could be Chris Lytle.

Anthony Njokuani

6 of 12

Anthony Njokuani lost to Edson Barboza via unanimous decision.

I feel as though all the opponents that were viable for Pellegrino are just as viable for Njokuani. Shalorus, Dunham-Sotiropoulos loser or Pellegrino himself are all viable.

Eliot Marshall

7 of 12

Eliot Marshall was TKO'd by Luiz Cane.

Marshall was brought in as a replacement when Karlos Vemola was hurt. I expect Marshall to be cut and go back to Nemesis fighting.

Mirko Cro Cop

8 of 12

Mirko Cro Cop lost to Brendan Schaub last night via TKO.

Cro Cop is now on a two-fight losing streak, and I fully expect this to be the end of the road. I am a huge Cro Cop fan but he can't do this anymore. It's been fantastic watching him fight all these years.

On the off chance that he doesn't retire, perhaps a fight against Matt Mitrione would be possible.

Dan Miller

9 of 12

Dan Miller lost a unanimous decision to Nate Marquardt. And for now, he didn't belong up there. Not yet at least.

Miller will go back to the undercards, possibly against the loser of Kendall Grove-Nate Quarry.

Kamal Shalorus

10 of 12

Kamal Shalorus lost via TKO to Jim Miller.

Shalorus is in the same boat as Pellegrino and Njokuani. He could take on any of the same opponents as them.

Eddie Wineland

11 of 12

Eddie Wineland lost a unanimous decision to Urijah Faber.

Wineland is still a top bantamweight, and his next fight could be against Joseph Benavidez or Brian Bowles.

Mauricio Rua

12 of 12

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua lost his title to Jon Jones via third-round TKO.

I think Shogun has two possibilities for his next fight.

If Randy Couture comes out victorious against Lyoto Machida, then I believe it will be Couture.

If Lyoto comes out victorious, then I believe Shogun will fight the winner of Rampage Jackson and Matt Hamill.
