UFC 128 Results: Bones Dominates, Light Heavyweight Division Finds Consistency

Tim DanielMar 19, 2011

In six weeks, Jon Jones took out a great up-and-comer in Ryan Bader and then crushed Shogun Rua to become the UFC light heavyweight champion.  The question now is: Will we finally have a consistent UFC light heavyweight champion?

Since Quinton Jackson won the title back in 2006, we have seen Forrest Griffin, Rashad Evans, Lyoto Machida and Shogun Rua all hold the championship. Only one of them had a successful title defense when Machida won a controversial decision against Shogun that later set up the rematch.

We have seen Jones maul all his competition.  Since coming to the UFC, Jones is 6-1 with five finishes. Along the way, Jones has made a believer out of many and, believe it or not, we might even see Jones go on to defend his UFC title quite a few times before it all is said and done.

With what Jones has showed us so far, it looks as if he is quite possibly unbeatable.  The creativity he shows with his striking is second to none and his ability to read his opponent's moves from miles away is awfully scary.

Jones' first title defense has been announced to be former champion and current teammate Rashad Evans.  A fight that both men said would never happen, but it is now in the books.

What possibly can Evans show Jones that he hasn't seen yet?  Jones has seen great wrestlers and taken them apart, Evans doesn't have the striking that he could've seen from Shogun tonight either.

So, get used to it folks, Jones is going to be the UFC champion for a long time.  He is a superstar in the making with his abilities, good looks and well-spoken manner.

A superstar was born tonight in New Jersey.
