2011 NFL Mock Draft: All 7 Rounds for the Dallas Cowboys 2.0

Trevor TriggJun 4, 2018

It's been a couple of weeks since my last mock. There hasn't been much activity in the NFL since then. Unless you count blustering, filing lawsuits and sending letters as activity.

We are sure that there will be a draft, though, so now is a great time to roll out another mock draft. There have been a few pro days that have shifted draft stock around, and I'm taking a different approach to the Cowboys' draft plan this time.

On that note, let's get started.

Round 1: Anthony Castonzo, OT Boston College

1 of 7
CHESTNUT HILL, MA - OCTOBER 03: Anthony Castonzo #74 of the Boston College Eagles congratulates teammate Montel Harris #2 after Harris scored a touchdown in the first quarter against the Florida State Seminoles on October 3, 2009 at Alumni Stadium in Che

In my last mock, I had Prince Amukamara here, and I still think he would be a good pick. However, I don't really think that the Cowboys' cornerbacks are the absolute train wreck that most analysts believe they are. I think a big part of the blame lies with the safety play and the pass rush.

I do think that the offensive line is a major concern though. Every lineman except Doug Free is on the wrong side of thirty and Kyle Kosier may hit free agency.

Anthony Castonzo is an immediate upgrade over Marc Colombo and would eventually make the switch to left tackle, while allowing Doug Free to move back to right tackle, a position he excelled at in 2009.

Whether they decide to draft Castonzo with the ninth pick is debatable. I have heard that no tackle should be drafted in the top 10 this year. So the 'Boys might be able to trade down and still get a young talented tackle.

Round 2: Rahim Moore, FS UCLA

If free agency ever starts, the Cowboys should be able to get a starting quality safety like Michael Huff. But no one knows when or if free agency will start. If it doesn't come around before the draft or they can't get the guy they want, Rahim Moore should be the pick.

He is the top rated safety prospect in this year's draft. He can cover and tackle, and he showed that he has a nose for the ball in 2009 when he recorded 10 interceptions.

His numbers dropped off in 2010 and he only recorded 11 bench reps at the combine, but I think he has the potential to be a great starter in the Cowboys secondary.

Round 3: Stephen Schilling, OG Michigan

The Cowboys could use some depth on their interior line, especially with Kyle Kosier about to hit free agency. Actually, they could do with some young talent along the whole line.

Schilling was a four year starter at Michigan, where he excelled at pass blocking, although he is athletic enough to pull and block out on the edge on run plays. He is a hard worker and might get a chance to start day one if Kosier is gone.

By taking Castonzo in Round 1 and Schilling in Round 3, the Cowboys could go from having an aging, overpaid line to a young talented line. I do like Schilling's potential and I think he could make an impact for the Cowboys.

Round 4: Pierre Allen, DE Nebraska

LINCOLN, NE - OCTOBER 30: Quarterback Blaine Gabbert #11 of the Missouri Tigers tries to avoid defensive end Pierre Allen #95 of the Nebraska Cornhuskers during first half action of their game at Memorial Stadium on October 30, 2010 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Pierre Allen is a big bruising defensive end who earned first team All-Big 12 honors his senior year. He didn't get much media hype due to playing on the same line as Ndamakong Suh, but he is an excellent player all the same.

He is solid against the run and can also get to the quarterback. He is very athletic and would make a nice addition to the Cowboys' defensive line rotation. The Cowboys will probably lose several defensive ends to free agency this year, so depth is definitely needed.

Round 5: Chris L. Rucker, CB Michigan State

ANN ARBOR, MI - OCTOBER 25: Chris L. Rucker of the Michigan State Spartans intercepts a fourth quarter pass in front of Toney Clemons #17 of the Michigan Wolverines on October 25, 2008 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Michigan State won the ga

Rucker has excellent size at 6'2" and 200 lbs. However, his forty times range in the 4.5 area, so there are concerns about his speed at the next level. He could become a hybrid safety/cornerback type of player in the NFL.

Yes, I know that sounds like Allan Ball and nobody wants another guy built in his mold, but Rucker has much better physical tools. He also has higher upside and could become a valuable asset in nickel packages.

Round 6: Chris White, ILB Mississippi State

White was a great two year starter for Mississippi State, has good size and is a sure tackler. However, he lacks elite speed needed to cover NFL tight ends. He could make up for that with technique, though, because he has great instincts. In the meantime, he could contribute on special teams.

I know the Cowboys drafted Sean Lee last year, but they will need depth, since this is probably Keith Brooking's last year. Plus, Bradie James isn't getting any younger.

Round 7: Noel Devine, RB West Virginia

7 of 7

The Cowboys may need a third running back if they cut Marion Barber this year. Noel Devine would make a nice addition to the Cowboys backfield.

He doesn't have a huge frame though. He is only 5'7" and 160 pounds. He does run a 4.34 forty, though, and uses his speed to make defenders miss. He also returns kicks and could become an all purpose offensive weapon for the Cowboys.
