Serie A Preview: Fiorentina on Course for Third Consecutive League Win
Fiorentina vs. Roma
This is the match that will mean so little to Fiorentina, given the fact that they do not have too much to play for this season.
They sit quite comfortably in the ninth position, with relegation and Champions League options looking quite beyond them. It could be a good thing for Roma, while it also has the potential to turn ugly for them.
Fiorentina has been trying to put up a late charge in the Italian Serie A table, and they have won their last two matches. But Roma comes into the match quite confident, having just beaten arch rival Lazio last weekend.
Roma can leapfrog Lazio with a victory over Fiorentina, and there can be no better motivation for the Giallorossi. However, the motivation to finish in the Champions League places will be the most evident against Fiorentina. Even Fiorentina will be able to motivate themselves since they are just two points behind Juventus in the table.
With the defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk being the only blip in Roma's form recently, they are the favorites going into the match. Both sides have not had too much of a problem on the injury front, which should pave way for a good match.
Inter Milan vs. Lecce
Inter Milan comes into the Lecce match in the best possible mood after just having one of their best Champions League nights. They came from behind in the tie to win against Bayern Munich, thereby booking their place in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
However, it does not take long for one to gauge Leonardo's priorities.
Even though retaining the Champions League crown will be important, retaining the league title will be most important. Inter Milan trails AC Milan by five points, which could grow to a massive eight points since AC Milan plays a day earlier than Inter.
The match against Lecce is likely to be one of the easiest for Inter though, given it's a home match, and Lecce has been poor away from home this season. It has been more than a month since Lecce last tasted success away from home.
This is perhaps the last match from which Lecce manager Luigi De Canio should hope for a victory. Apart from Diego Milito, Inter will be able to name a full-strength squad for the match. That should not give him too much confidence either.
