ESPN Friday Night Fights: Brad Solomon Defeats Demetrius Hopkins

Live results will be posted for this week's edition of ESPN Friday Night Fights beginning at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

The main event features Demetrius Hopkins (30-1-1, 11 KO) and Brad Solomon (16-0, 7 KO) in a 10-round welterweight bout.

Opening Bout: Yan Barthelemy (11-2) vs. Francis Ruiz (9-3)

Round 1—Soutpaw Barthelemy opens up early as Ruiz backs up. Ruiz gets hit with a good right hand and it knocks him backwards. Ruiz responds against the ropes, but Barthelemy got the better hooks in and a nice body shot. Barthelemy lands a solid left hook to end the round. 10-9 Barthelemy

Round 2—Barthelemy is all over Ruiz early in the round and catching him inside with more right hooks. Ruiz has some success landing combinations, but Barthelemy is pressuring him. Ruiz carried the action late in a close round. 10-9 Ruiz

Round 3—Break in action after Ruiz forgets his mouthpiece after leaving corner. Barthelemy lands a combination to the body. Those are some hard body shots he is landing. Both fighters trade and Barthelemy gets the better of it. A right hook puts Ruiz down. He gets up, and Barthelemy continues the attack with a flurry of punches. Ruiz is fighting back and is taking a lot of solid shots. Great round for Barthelemy. 10-8 Barthelemy

Power punches in round three: Barthelemy 30/53, Ruiz 9/37.

Round 4—Barthelemy lands a right hook inside. Ruiz is having trouble avoiding it. Ruiz opens up in the final minute with a flurry of body shots. Barthelemy lands a few shots inside Ruiz’ guard. 10-9 Barthelemy

Round 5—Both fighters cautious early. A minute in, and Ruiz is trying to time the defensive-minded Barthelemy. Whoever does more work in the last minute should win the round. Not much landed this round, but Ruiz was the aggressor. 10-9 Ruiz

Round 6—Barthelemy opens the round with a jab. Both fire body shots. Ruiz goes to the head and body but is not effective. A minute left, and it’s another close round. Barthelemy walks Ruiz down and opens up with a hook and uppercut combination. 10-9 Barthelemy

Round 7—Barthelemy lands a body shot to open the round. A straight right misses for Barthelemy, but he lands a solid left hand that pushes Ruiz to the ropes. 10-9 Barthelemy

Round 8—They are both fighting head-to-head for a full minute before they fall into a clinch. Barthelemy lands a left, and Ruiz counters with a right that connects. Close round, but Barthelemy landed slightly more. 10-9 Barthelemy

Round 9—Barthelemy works the head of Ruiz who is firing away to the body. Barthelemy landing a bunch of uppercuts inside, and Ruiz’ mouthpiece falls out. After a break in the action, Ruiz runs into a straight left. Another left hands snaps Ruiz’ head back with a minute left in the round. Uppercut and straight left lands to end the round for Barthelemy. 10-9 Barthelemy

Round 10—Action continues as Barthelemy and Ruiz do extensive work inside. It’s a pretty good round of back-and-forth action, but Barthelemy remains the more accurate puncher. 10-9 Barthelemy

Judges score it 98-91, 97-92 and 100-89 all for Yan Barthelemy.

 Main Event: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Brad Solomon

Round 1—A minute in, and Hopkins hasn’t thrown a single punch. Solomon has been throwing jabs, but Hopkins’ commitment to defense is too much right now. A sweeping right lands for Solomon. Hopkins finally throws two jabs two minutes in. He follows up with a right hand. Very close round. 10-9 Solomon

Round 2—Hopkins doing some good work with the jab, but Solomon isn’t countering so he’s having a hard time finding the opening. Solomon lands a good right hand to the body as Hopkins goes against the ropes. He follows that up with an uppercut and left hook combination. He may have stole the round with that. 10-9 Solomon

Round 3—Solomon is light on his feet and seems more comfortable so far in the fight. Hopkins is being way to cautious. Boxers clinch and Solomon throws a flurry to the body. Hopkins has some success late, but it may have not been enough to steal the round. 10-9 Solomon

Round 4—Hopkins looks for the right hand inside, but Solomon is seeing it coming. Right after he avoids one, Hopkins lands a right hand, which is the best punch of the fight so far. Hopkins looks for a counter as Solomon jumps in. Close round, but Hopkins’ right hand should win him it. 10-9 Hopkins

Round 5—Hopkins opens the round with two left hooks. Solomon is being very aggressive, and Hopkins isn’t countering. Solomon lands a left hook and a body shot. That probably got him the round. 10-9 Solomon

Round 6—Punch stats show Hopkins landing 48 and Solomon landing 56 punches through five rounds. Solomon is bullying Hopkins around the ring this round and gets hit with a right hand. Hopkins falls against the ropes and Solomon opens up with a three punch combination. Another combination lands for him with 30 seconds to go. Solomon counters to the body to end the round. 10-9 Solomon

Round 7—Hopkins counters with a right. Solomon measures with right hand and misses. Solomon lands two body shots. Hopkins gets him against the ropes and lands an uppercut. Solomon lands the best combination of the fight to end the round. 10-9 Solomon

Round 8—Punch stats through seven rounds: Hopkins 63/278, Solomon 86/313. Hopkins lands a right hand inside and follows up with a left hook. Solomon answers with his own right hand. Hopkins 10-9

Round 9—Lot’s of inside work in this round. Hopkins is firing away, and Solomon is punching away to the body for most of the time fighting from the inside. Hopkins is just not going for it. 10-9 Solomon

Round 10—Solomon’s confidence is at an all-time high in the final round. He knows he has the victory and is fighting like it. Hopkins’ inactivity is something he really doesn’t need right now. He needs a knockout. Solomon didn’t do much this round, but he won it because Hopkins didn't really do anything. 10-9 Solomon
