Isaac Odim's April 7th Pro Day at University of Minnesota Duluth Draws Packers

Dylan AshcraftApr 7, 2011

I wrote an article a while back about the DII Champion University of Minnesota's star running back prospect Isaac Odim and how he will be a steal in this year's draft class. My specific article talked about how the Miami Dolphins should try and get their hands on him, with their obvious need at running back. But anyone who invites him to camp (if and when mini camps occur) will be nothing short of pleased.

There were some concerns about him not being a very impressive prospect to some, so I figured I'd do the honors of posting his pro day numbers, which he tweeted today, and compare them to top back Mark Ingram Jr.'s official numbers from nfl.com...

Isaac Odim's Official numbers...

Bench press: 21 reps

Broad jump: 10'5.5" (126.6")

Vertical jump: 38.5"

40-yard dash: 4.63 seconds

20-yard shuttle: 4.27 seconds

Three-cone drill: 6.71 seconds

60-yard shuttle: 11.55 seconds

Mark Ingram Jr.'s official numbers...

Bench press: 21 reps

Broad jump: 9'9.9" (118.0")

Vertical jump: 31.5"

40-yard dash: 4.62 seconds

20-yard shuttle: 4.62 seconds

Three-cone drill: 7.13 seconds

60-yard shuttle: Did not participate

As you can see, Odim performed better than Ingram in every category, save the 40-yard dash, where Odim was a step behind Ingram (.01 seconds). They put up the same amount of reps on the bench. My point? Odim had a very, very solid pro day.

The only question one can raise about Odim is straight line speed. As his 40-yard dash clearly shows, he isn't Chris Johnson. That was already known, however, and a 4.63 is not a bad time for a 6', 220-pound running back who excels at running people over and making people miss in space.

Being a DII prospect, he didn't have dozens of scouts in attendance. In fact, only the Packers were represented in Duluth today. This was after Odim tweeted in response to a follower asking who would be in attendance:

"Not quite sure yet. Packers and Vikings for sure tho. Maybes on chiefs, patriots, jets, falcons. Trying to spread the word."

Odim also dined with Green Bay, and the Packer representative filmed the workout as well.

He seems to be the real deal and has what it takes to be an NFL back. Being a DII player, he is projected to be a Round 7 guy, but unfortunately is more likely to go undrafted. It can be said, though, that whoever gets their hands on this kid could be getting the steal of the draft.
