Wanderlei Silva Wants Chris Leben, but Dana White Wants Silva vs. Vitor Belfort
It was just yesterday that it seemed Chris Leben would be facing off against Wanderlei Silva. Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White has other plans for Wanderlei, however, as a Silva vs. Vitor Belfort match is in his sights.
"No that's what Wanderlei wants," White said in an interview with MMAFighting's Ariel Helwani regarding a possible match with Belfort. "That's not the fight we want for Wanderlei."
Yesterday, Leben's manager, Gary Ibarra, said in an interview that Leben wanted to face the likes of Silva.
“Chris is eager to fight again after his loss to Brian Stann,” Ibarra, told MMAWeekly.com. “[He] would like to reiterate his desire to compete against a legend of the sport and personal hero of his in Wanderlei Silva.”
Even Wanderlei himself wanted the fight to go down against Leben. Wanderlei seemingly thought and said that Leben would be his next opponent.
"I figth with chris lemben I think we gonna give great show for the fans," Silva said via his Twitter account.
The UFC has different plans for the former PRIDE champion and MMA legend.
"We want Vitor Belfort," White said. "Wanderlei versus Vitor, that's the fight I want, Wanderlei knows I want that fight. Vitor's ready to roll."
Helwani then asked the perfect question for White, does Wanderlei not want that fight?
"I don't know. Let's find out. Run and tweet that homeboy." White said.
Wanderlei and Vitor have met in the ring before, back in 1998 at UFC Ultimate Brazil, where Vitor knocked out Silva in only 44 seconds.
Again, these two could fight in Brazil when the UFC visits the country in August. It could be the perfect storm for an all-Brazilian legend clash for the two fighters.
