Picks from the President: Breaking Down President Obamas NCAA Tournament Bracket

Eddie WaltersMar 16, 2011

President Barack Obama filled out his 2011 NCAA tournament bracket earlier today on ESPN, picking the Kansas Jayhawks to win it all.

Obama played it safe with most of his picks; he has all four No. 1 seeds are in the Final Four.

There are a few bold picks though. President Obama has 11th-seeded Gonzaga knocking off 6th-ranked St. Johns in the opening round. He also picked 12th-ranked Richmond to upset 5th-ranked Vanderbilt in the first round.

Rounding out the Elite 8 are Ohio State, Duke, Kansas, Pittsburgh, Florida, UConn, North Carolina and Purdue. No real shockers here; the lowest ranked teams the President has getting through are three seeds Purdue and UConn, and the rest are one and two seeds.

President Obama has Ohio State beating out North Carolina, whom he picked correctly to win it all two years ago, to reach the Final Four. He also has Duke over UConn, Pittsburgh over Florida and Kansas over Purdue to fill out the rest of the Final Four.

The president is going with Kansas to surpass Pittsburgh to reach the title game, and Ohio State edging out Duke for their first trip to the title game since losing to Florida in 2007.

So it's Kansas vs. Ohio State in the championship game.

The president picked Kansas to win it all last year only to be let down in the second round as UNI upset the No. 1 seeded Jayhawks.

Will Kansas let our president down in the brackets two years in a row? We'll find out starting Friday, when the Jayhawks take on Boston University in the first round.
