Terrell Owens: A Winner's Attitude.

Jayson StarkeySep 30, 2008

I know what you are thinking -- "How can someone write an article defending Terrell Owens?" -- Well, there are so many articles and sportscasters that attack him,  I thought it only fitting that their should be at least one article defending him.

Terrell Owens is a marquee wide receiver.  He scores touchdowns.  He apparently loves his new home with the Cowboys, and feels he can be a part of something special this season. He has great vision, and is an inspiration to his teammates on and off the field - Not to mention that his touchdown celebrations are something to behold.

Terrell Owens has been silent....until now.

One question in a post-game interview now turns the entire world against Owens.  Obviously upset about a loss at home, on a day when he looked to have big numbers - he states the obvious.  "The offense, defense and special teams did not get it done today".  Then adds, "I would have liked to have had the ball more".

Winners usually do want the ball.  They long to contribute.  They feel if they had that one more magic touch - things might have went differently.  Who knows, maybe Terrell Owens was just disappointed.  Who can blame him?

Did the media offer any questions the next day?  Could someone have possibly asked, "What did you mean by your comments in your postgame interview?" -- Guess what, no one asked.  No one cares.  All the care was given to the fact that Owens has had some sort of checkered past with the teams he has played for, his teammates and oh yeah, the media.

Fans and media alike have decided that after one slip of the tongue the "Honeymoon is over" -- with comments like "Just shut up and play" and "Something needs to be done about this problem", they have written off the Dallas Cowboys' entire season -- because of a comment.  I say, let the winner speak -- let Terrell Owens have his moment at the podium without every word he offers being held under the microscope of scrutiny.

If it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck -- chances are, it is a duck -- If it plays like a winner and talks like a winner....chances are, it's a winner.

So Terrell -- let's hear what you have to say -- let us ALL know your feelings.  Let the media have their stories, and let the fans make their complaints.  You are a winner, and your attitude in Dallas has helped to propel this team to new heights.

To all Dallas Cowboy fans who disagree -- well, I hear that Philly is looking for new fans.  Shoot, maybe you could even get Donovan McNabb's autograph, and you guys can have a T.O. bashing party together! That might be pretty cool!

As a Dallas Cowboys fan -- Love or hate Terrell Owens...It still does not change the fact that he is the best receiver in the NFL since Jerry Rice....And mark my words, it will not change the fact that fans and non-fans alike will tune in every Sunday to see what Terrell Owens will do next.

Only a winner can make this happen. So thank you Terrell - thank you for being a winner.
