Elmer CrisostomoSep 30, 2008

So much have been said about arguably one of the greatest boxing matches of all-time, Manny Pacquiao vs. Oscar Dela Hoya joust, which definitely made boxing fans salivate no end.

Although Pacquiao trails the Golden Boy when it comes to odds in bettings this early, everybody is expecting the Filipino legend to narrow the gap as the bout nears.

The dream match which started a widespread debates among people in and out of boxing is now a topic in almost every household, putting boxing above every sport, at least for the time being.

Thousands of questions have been raised and tons of queries are bound to be thrown globally as an almost unprecedented interests in the sport begin to snowball out of proportions because of these two boxing greats.

The boxing world has never been this positively divided. Some boxing experts confidently declared an easy victory for Oscar only to be countered by a number of boxing know-hows who are predicting a Manny's win. Even a couple of boxing legends themselves couldn't put a common prediction.

There's also that crazy talk of this fight being a huge mismatch considering the height and weight discrepancy among others. Only to be countered by claims that it is a legit match-up.

Nevertheless, whatever happens comes December, boxing will definitely have its greatest Christmas present of all-time.

Now for my fearless forecast, it's gonna be Manny by 11th. My basis?

First, Manny Pacquiao's greatness has been anchored on his ability to rise to the occasion when the odds are heavily stacked against him. He first did it against Sasakul, a national boxing hero of Thailand, to snatch his first world crown. And then, against Barrera in convincing fashion. Pacquiao was also given a slim chance against Morales. But, the rest is history.

Second, Oscar may be able to pull the trigger, contrary to Roach's claim, but he doesn't have enough bullets left in his gun. The ever-evolving Manny has almost all kinds of artillery. Dela Hoya will be able to withstand Pacquiao's onslaught in the early rounds, but the accumulation of Manny's two-fisted connections will be too much for Oscar to take in the concluding rounds.

And lastly, the Pacman is on top of his game while Dela Hoya is in the twilight of his career. Oscar may want to end his career with a big bang but Pacquiao is out to rewrite boxing history.

I'm not counting out an Oscar victory, though, because for me, the fight is very close it is 'anybody's ballgame'.
