NFL September Power Poll
MJ KasprzakSep 30, 2008
Okay, stop complaining Giants fans. Despite your pathetic performance against the pathetic Bengals at home, your best friend was the bye...and other teams failing to overcome their pathetic performances and actually losing.
The following are my votes for the power poll run by Shaun Ahmad and my reasons why:
- New York Giants: only one quality win, but it looks that much better after Sunday
- Tennessee Titans: devastating defense, but can they beat good teams with that offense?
- Carolina Panthers: first two victories may have been more impressive than first thought
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers: two big wins in a row have their stock on the rise
- Buffalo Bills: Raiders + Rams take leads into halftime = Bills are pretenders
- Washington Offensively Named Ones: if they are finding their offense, they're scary
- Dallas Cowboys: last week's dynamo now in danger of T.O. chemistry meltdown
- San Diego Chargers: remember, they're actually 3-1
- Philadelphia Eagles: Akers won't miss two field goals often
- New Orleans Saints: two wins, two losses by a field goal or less
- Denver Broncos: last week I said "worst 3-0 team ever" and they didn't disappoint...plus they're 2-2, not 3-1
- Baltimore Ravens: lost to Steelers, but in Pittsburgh, who lost too many players to be ranked higher
- Pittsburgh Steelers: if only they could play all their games at home on Monday Night
- Chicago Bears: two quality wins to Packers one, plus close in both losses
- Jacksonville Jaguars: may be adjusting to offensive line injuries
- Green Bay Packers: Rodgers should be back, but may not be 100%
- New England Patriots: can't rank a team higher that is blown out by Miami
- New York Jets: Favre won't play like that every week
- Indianapolis Colts: bye week allows them to get healthy, offense on track
- Arizona Cardinals: highest rated NFC West team looked bad against mediocre team Sunday
- Minnesota Vikings: 1-3, but all four games against possible contenders
- San Francisco Forty-Niners: over-matched against good teams
- Seattle Seahawks: only win is against hapless Rams
- Miami Dolphins: was decisive win against New England a sign or a fluke?
- Atlanta Falcons: this should be the worst team in the league, but it's not
- Houston Texans: no win, but have played three playoff teams
- Cleveland Browns: big road win against Bengals would have sounded good before season
- Oakland Raiders: doesn't matter who coaches this circus as long as Al is on top
- Kansas City Chiefs: don't get too caught up in another win over Shanahan at Arrowhead
- Cincinnati Bengals: once again, competitive but can't finish because closing takes character
- St. Louis Rams: Linehan being fired will pay immediate dividends.
- Detroit Lions: Millen being fired won't pay dividends until offseason
