WWE: Weekly Awards

Tom HarveyJun 7, 2018

I've decided to start an awards thing on B/R. Every week, on Saturday, there will be a slideshow with the awards and the nominees. People can vote from when I post it, 'til midnight on Thursday. The article with the winners will have my choice, and your choice, so make sure you vote!

This is the first time I've done something like this, and it could go terribly wrong, so if you have any suggestions for awards or changes to my articles please comment below.

On with the show!

Match of the Week!

1 of 10
Masters performing a very quick Samoan drop
Masters performing a very quick Samoan drop

This is the award for the match you enjoyed the most this week. It isn't about which had the best technical wrestling, or the biggest spots, just whatever match you enjoyed the most. It's been a pretty poor week this week for wrestling, so I'll just pick my favourite matches from each show. The nominees are:

John Morrison vs Dolph Ziggler (RAW): Good match for Ziggler to return to. I like both of these superstars and see them both going on to big things in the WWE

Darren Young vs Jacob Novak (NXT: Redemption): If I'm honest, only because it was better than the other match. Young's finisher is quite good and I see him going on to winning the contest.

Chris Masters vs Tyler Reks (Superstars): The highlight of my wrestling week, a great match that deserves to be on SmackDown

Rey Mysterio vs Drew McIntyre (SmackDown): I like Drew and I hate that he has no story going into WrestleMania, but there's still time for him to be added to something!

My Choice: Chris Masters vs Tyler Reks
This was the standout match of the week to me, and I enjoyed every second of it. Masters got a huge pop and Reks was booed massively. This is a rivalry that could be on SmackDown, if either of them were just a little better on the mic. Alas, it is not, but it's a rivalry that will keep me watching Superstars every week.

Disappointment of the Week!

2 of 10

This is the award for the moment this week that made you feel disappointed with how whatever it was transpired. The nominees are:

Christian's first match back after returning from injury is against...Brodus Clay?! (RAW): So Christian has his first match back against Brodus Clay? Fine, so he just destroys him to prove that he hasn't been affected too badly by the injury?

I mean, Brodus is still a rookie really, and doesn't really need to look dominant this early in his WWE career. Oh, you're gonna have him dominate the match anyway, and then just sort of let Christian win. No, no, that's a good idea too, I suppose...

Daniel Bryan defeats Sheamus in a quick match by count-out (RAW): You want Sheamus to look like a threat to the title, you have him dominate Bryan and lose by DQ. You DON'T have him injured in seconds and then lose by count-out. Can anyone say pink slip?

Vickie Guerrero is going to be wrestling next week (RAW): Yes, Vickie will wrestle for her job AGAIN. How many times has this happened now? Seriously? No one wants to see a middle-aged non-wrestler fight for her job. We didn't want to watch it once, we don't want to watch it again.

E&C Reunite! But.. it's just not the same (SmackDown): Read below.

My Choice: E&C Reunite! But.. it's just not the same
Yes, this is my disappointment of the week. I was excited when they announced that Edge and Christian would be tagging together again for the first time in years. And then, when the match finally came, it just wasn't the same.

I was hoping something would happen with them, like coming out together, wearing those swimming goggle-like glasses, or doing a pose, but they did nothing! They didn't even seem to like each other, both seeming cold to the other. It just wasn't the same E&C that we all knew and loved.

Shocker of the Week!

3 of 10
'SCSA' celebrating in the ring
'SCSA' celebrating in the ring

This is for the biggest shock of the week. WWE always tries to add shocking things to their shows to keep rivalries fresh. Here are your nominees:

The Miz boycotts RAW, and then comes out of nowhere to beat down Cena (RAW): The Miz said he was boycotting RAW on his Twitter account, and then he turns up out of nowhere to beat Cena down. It was a great way to end a good episode of RAW.

Vickie Guerrero and Dolph Ziggler return to WWE as the newest members of the RAW Roster (RAW): I doubt anyone was expecting this to happen, I for once had pretty much forgotten about Vickie and Dolph. I'm glad Dolph is back, can't say the same about Vickie!

SCSA becomes the Special Guest Ref of Lawler vs Cole after beating down JBL (RAW): An amazing promo and the first time the ring has been flooded with beer for too long! Cole's mini promo got him some good heat, JBL's got him a lot of heat and made him many fans shocked because of his return, and Stone Cold got the biggest pop you could possibly imagine. Good way to start the second hour of RAW!

Triple H vs Undertaker is announced as No Holds Barred (RAW and SmackDown): Undertaker challenges Triple H to a No Holds Barred stipulation, and Trips accepts. You got two good promos out of this, and it has built anticipation for their WM match

My Choice: SCSA become SGR of Lawler vs Cole after beating down JBL (RAW)
The return of JBL actually shocked me, and I loved it. I like JBL and am sad that he isn't involved, but I love the idea of SCSA being the Guest Ref, as he a) will have to appear more on RAW and b) will take names and kick ass!

Promo of the Week!

4 of 10
The Miz kneeling over Cena after beating him down
The Miz kneeling over Cena after beating him down

This is for heel or face promos, on a better week I may do a different slide for both, but for this week one slide should suffice. Nominees:

Undertaker proposes a No Holds Barred stipulation (RAW): Undertaker starts the show with a surprise appearance and a good promo. Don't like the 'last outlaw' thing, doesn't make that much sense, but it was a good promo nonetheless.

Michael Cole announces JBL as the Special Guest Ref (RAW): JBL and Cole were on top form in this promo, both gaining a lot of heat. "There are other matches, there's a guest host...Whatever" has got to be my favourite line this week!

The Miz comes out of nowhere to attack Cena and mock The Rock (RAW): This was a great promo and a great way to end RAW. It came out of nowhere and I loved it.

Lucky Cannon says he's too good for the NXT challenge (NXT): Lucky Cannon shows some character and gets blown off, not in that way, by Maryse. This was a good start for the promising young wrestler.

John Cena tells Miz he made a BIG mistake in attacking him on RAW (SmackDown): Cena shows he has some balls after a couple weeks of rapping. While I liked the first rap, the one this week was a little lackluster and the only good thing about it was the mock Rock T-shirt. His promo on SmackDown however was good, and I like that Cena has become a lot more badass in recent months

Triple H accepts the Undertaker's challenge (SmackDown): Triple H shows a video package of why you shouldn't play the game. Does HHH have a chance at WM, of course not. But lets forget that, just because this was a good promo from the King of Kings.

My Choice: The Miz comes out of nowhere to attack Cena and mock The Rock
This was a great promo, and it was unexpected. This beatdown of Cena was great, him stealing one of Rock's catchphrases and moves was great, him calling out both of them was great. I just loved this promo.

Although it was a tough choice between this and JBL and Cole, I chose this because it shows The Miz' promo skills and gets him back into the storyline.

Superstar of the Week!

5 of 10
The Miz looking smug after beating down Cena
The Miz looking smug after beating down Cena

This is for the person you think has been the best Superstar this week. The Nominees are:

Randy Orton (RAW): For being beaten down badly and still winning his match with David Otunga in a very quick match.

Christian (SmackDown): Two wins in two matches, one against the No. 1 Contender for the WHC. Things are looking up for Captain Charisma.

CM Punk (RAW): For beating down Randy Orton, possibly tiring him enough to get him injured next week, and then beating R-Truth in a match later that night.

The Miz (RAW): For coming out of nowhere and putting Rock and Cena in their with a beatdown and great promo

Cody Rhodes (SmackDown): For beating JTG easily and then getting an official match against Rey Mysterio at Wrestlemania.

Edge (SmackDown): For getting the upper hand over rival and title contender Alberto Del Rio on SmackDown with long time friend Christian.

My Choice: The Miz
His promo was amazing, and he's back in the storyline. People might finally believe he can beat John Cena at Wrestlemania!

Worst Superstar of the Week!

6 of 10
Sheamus getting kicked off the apron by Daniel Bryan
Sheamus getting kicked off the apron by Daniel Bryan

Basically the reverse of the last slide, "but you already knew that". Which brings me on to the nominees:

Alberto Del Rio (SmackDown): For sending his apprentice Brodus Clay to beat down Christian for him, and after that failed losing a match to Edge and Christian as he tagged with Clay.

David Otunga (RAW): For being beaten in what seemed like a split second against a beaten and bruised Randy Orton.

Brodus Clay (SmackDown): For losing two matches in one week, and for making me think he's a joke for doing that weird flex/yawn thing.

All the Divas: For being punked by Michael Cole in the middle of a Championship match (RAW), and for having a minute long match that was ended with a modified neck breaker (SmackDown)

Sheamus (RAW): For being injured within seconds of his match with US-Champ Daniel Bryan, continuing his losing streak, and for basically signing a death warrant for his career by putting it on the line for the US title.

Tyson Kidd (Superstars): For being a coward in his match, and then getting beaten down by everyone involved in the match including his partners.

My Choice: Sheamus
For basically doing absolutely nothing, except getting beaten down. Sheamus' losing streak continues and putting your career on the line to win the US title just seems a bit pointless. It's a sort of lose-lose situation, as he either loses his job or proves that he can no longer hang with the big boys as he can only win the US title

Worst Match of the Week!

7 of 10
You won, Layla. But it's not a good award!
You won, Layla. But it's not a good award!

Again, pretty self explanatory. This award is for the match you deemed the worst this week. Nominees are:

Eve vs Nikki Bella (RAW): The Bella's can't wrestle, they're basically just there so that the male viewers will pay a little more attention. They try 'Twin Magic', which has to be one of the worst finishers ever, and are caught. Thank god Cole interrupted them!

Christian vs Brodus Clay (RAW): Seriously, his first match back and you have him go up against Brodus Clay?! Right, well it was a bad decision leading to an awful match. I hope you're happy, creative.

Mark Henry, The Great Khali and Natalya vs Tyson Kidd, William Regal and Melina (Superstars): The Great Khali cannot wrestle, end of. The fact that he's a former WHC is just laughable. The match had nothing going for it apart from Natalya and Melina getting in a mini cat fight. And this is the main event? No wonder Superstars is failing.

Layla vs Kaitlyn (SmackDown): So Lay-Cool go out, then Kaitlyn. Layla screams a bit, begs McCool to help her, then wins with a modified neckbreaker? Are you kidding me? This match had nothing good about it, please split up LayCool so they can feud, then I might care about the divas!

My Choice: Layla vs Kaitlyn
This match was awful, no wonder no one takes WWEs Women's division serious. Ooo, you've brought back Trish Stratus? That should give you more credibili.. SHE'S AGAINST VICKIE?! Why do you even bother having female 'wrestlers' anymore WWE?

Best Show!

8 of 10

Self explanatory again, which show do you think has been the best this week?

RAW: For The Undertaker's promo, Dolph Ziggler's return, JBL and SCSA's returns and segment and The Miz ending the show dominant after putting himself back into the storyline.

NXT: For one of the contestants, Lucky Cannon, actually showing some sort of character on the first show, and for Darren Young's impressive night.

Superstars: For Chris Masters vs Tyler Reks and Vladamir Kozlov finally getting a singles match

SmackDown: For Cody Rhode's great night, Michael Cole's interview and Triple H accepting the Undertaker's challenge.

My Choice: RAW
It was a good episode, and it was full of surprises with Ziggler returning, JBL and SCSA making appearances and The Miz ending the show.

Worst Show!

9 of 10

For your least favourite show of the week! Nominees:

RAW: For Vickie being announced for a match next week, Snookie being announced for next week, Otunga being squashed and the Divas match.

NXT: For the confusion of Darren Young competing for a place in next season's NXT (he already had a WWE contract with RAW) and for nothing much happening.

Superstars: For Tyson Kidd getting buried and for that poor excuse for a main event.

SmackDown: For E&C being a disappointment, the Divas match and the weird ending to the Corre vs Big Show and Kane match.

My Choice: Undecided
I don't know what show was the worst this week, next week should be easier with RAW looking pretty shoddy from what's been announced.
