NFL Trade Rumors: Latest Musings on the NFL's Biggest Names

Wes ODonnellMar 11, 2011

The owners and the NFLPA are coming down to another deadline, and there is not too much optimism to speak of in terms of a deal.

We have no certainty of football for next season and that is certainly not a good thing.

Rumors fly about who holds the leverage at this point, but by the end of the day, we will have a clearer picture of what is going on.

Whenever football gets the green light though, there are a few players that may be on the move for better or worse.

Here is a look at 10 players who could be wearing new uniforms when football returns.

10. Marion Barber, RB, Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys' running back may not be in their plans for the future and might be better suited in a new uniform.

Tashard Choice and Felix Jones look like the new duo for what the Cowboys like to do, and Barber's lack of production has not helped his case.

He could still be a very productive running back in the right system, but there is no telling he'll get that chance.

The Cowboys could still find something in return for him and it would be in their best interest to do so before Barber gets back on the field and underperforms again.

9. Aaron Maybin, DE/OLB, Penn State

The former No. 11 overall pick has not had a good run in Buffalo.

Maybin has fallen out of favor in Buffalo and if he has any chance to succeed in the NFL, it will likely be in another city.

He has been terribly ineffective in the Bills' system and the pass rushing force he was supposed to be has never taken the field during his short career.

The Penn State product may never pan out in the NFL, but the best chance for him will be on another team.

8. Albert Haynesworth, DT, Washington Redskins

Do we even need to go into detail on this one?

Haynesworth and Washington have never been on the right page (expect when he signed the contract) and now the once dominant defensive tackle is an afterthought on the Redskin team.

He's been linked to a number of teams but has to find an organization willing to take on his salary.

He can take over a game when he is in shape and a new city should get him re-energized.

7. Kyle Orton and Tim Tebow, QBs, Denver Broncos

Oh well this will be fun.

At the end of last season the trend was sending Kyle Orton away, but new coach John Fox seems to be sticking with him as the starter.

Tim Tebow, the much-ballyhooed youngster that fans will ultimately side with in this controversy, cannot be happy with taking a back seat to Orton once more.

I doubt very highly that Tebow would ever be traded out of Denver, but we cannot deny that stranger things have happened in the world of sports.

I do not expect to see this offense become too threatening this season and it will only be a matter of time before Tebow is back under center.

6. Donovan McNabb, QB, Washington Redskins

Oh gosh, coach Mike Shanahan really went after this one.

McNabb was never going to work out in Washington in my eyes. He was just in an unfortunate set of circumstances that will ultimately land him in another city like Arizona, Tennessee, San Francisco or most likely, Minnesota.

He will be a starter again in 2011 (obviously not with Washington), and the right team will just have to come forward after the Draft (sorry, no optimism on a deal) to claim him as their new signal caller.

He may not win six more games for a team on his own, but he will certainly help a good team win even if they are not Super Bowl contenders.

5. Carson Palmer, QB, Cincinnati Bengals

"Trade me or I retire."

Well to be honest, I think Carson will ultimately be forced to retire in this situation.

I do not expect the Bengals to bend on this one and I do think they will be addressing their quarterback situation come April.

If he does get the opportunity to play for another team, we can expect it to be someone like the 49ers.

Carson would love to go back west, and San Francisco could use a veteran quarterback rather than an unproven rookie.

4. Jimmy Clausen, QB, Carolina Panthers

This is a really interesting one.

The second year quarterback is in a tough spot and reportedly has very few supporters behind him in Carolina.

There have been rumors that Fox was never on board with him, new coach Ron Rivera is reportedly not on board either and that does not bode well for the former Golden Domer.

If the Panthers decide to take a quarterback with the No. 1 pick, I cannot help but believe they would try and find a suitor for Clausen.

He will not want to ride the bench behind a rookie and the Panthers would be better off with a veteran presence in his place anyway.

A bit of a long shot, but I like Clausen and think he could be good in the right system.

3. Vince Young, QB, Tennessee Titans

Vince Young better clear his head before he comes back as an NFL quarterback, and that is the most important thing for him.

The Titans want nothing to do with him and while he has a ton of ability, he needs the right system to succeed in the NFL.

Young will be a bit of project, but teams looking for a dynamic quarterback could easily give him a shot as a starter.

There are not a ton of teams like that right now, but Miami certainly comes to mind when discussing possible destinations.

2. Ryan Grant, RB, Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers like to throw the football.

They found a productive young running back that compliments them well, and they are coming off a Super Bowl winning season; none of this bodes well for Ryan Grant.

Second year back James Starks will likely get the shot at being the lead back next season and Grant will likely want to be a starting running back for someone (can't completely blame him for being injured and missing a Super Bowl run).

There are not a ton of teams looking for new ball carriers, but they could certainly find a taker for the right price.

1. Kevin Kolb, QB, Philadelphia Eagles

This is just a wait-and-see game at this point.

Kolb is not going to be the backup in Philadelphia this year, and he will certainly not want to wait around any longer than he has to.

There are as many as 11 teams looking for a starting quarterback and one of them will put Kolb under center to start the season.

He's a young, talented player that just wants a chance.
