2011 NFL Draft: Jeremy Beal and 7 Players Falling After This Week's Pro Days
The pro day circuit is officially under way and not everybody is putting on a fantastic show.
We know that some players are lighting it up and giving teams a lot to think about, but for others, the workouts have not been too kind.
There are still many pro days remaining, but already we have seen a fair number of players help and hurt themselves with their workouts.
The draft season is starting to put things in focus. Here is a look at 10 players who seem to be going in the wrong direction.
Jeremy Beal, DL, Oklahoma
1 of 7
Jeremy Beal was extremely productive at Oklahoma, but he has continually dropped off since the season ended.
He measures in at 6'1.5", 262 pounds, continually looks slow and barely gets under 5.2 in the 40.
Beal is too small to play defensive end in a 4-3 and he is way too small to stand up effectively in a 3-4.
It does not look good for a guy who was once considered a top 50 player.
John Clay, RB, Wisconsin
2 of 7
This is not a complete fall for Clay after losing some weight from his senior season, but he's still slow at 4.76, he struggles catching the football out of the backfield and he is a tough player to get a feel for.
He's not explosive or fast, and despite being rather productive and a potential short-yardage back, he does not have much else to offer.
DeMarcus Love, OT, Arkansas
3 of 7
DeMarcus Love is a good athlete and he has good experience in the toughest conference, but he seems to be going backwards since the season ended.
He has not looked good in position drills and seems to lack coordination in his movements.
His teammate, Ray Dominguez, happens to be going in the positive direction, which does not bode well for Love.
Orie Lemon, LB, Oklahoma State
4 of 7
The Oklahoma State linebacker ran a slow 4.87 40-yard dash and pulled his hamstring in the process.
He's short (under 6'1") and he has average bulk, and his lack of speed could hurt him transferring to the next level.
Lemon racked up a lot of tackles as a Cowboy, but he did not get to perform any field drills for the scouts and teams in attendance.
Andrew McGee, CB, Oklahoma State
5 of 7
Another Cowboy seemed to injure himself in the running at his pro day, and it unfortunately was defensive back Andrew McGee.
He ran a 4.71 and 4.77 before straining his hamstring. This does not bode well for a 5'11", 193-pound prospect.
There are a lot of talented cornerbacks in this draft, and while he was not too high on the list to begin with, his lack of speed does not help.
Courtney Smith, WR, South Alabama
6 of 7
The South Alabama wide receiver has great size for the position, but I would have liked to see him run faster.
Smith ran in the mid 4.6s in the 40, and at 6'4", 232 pounds, I would have liked to see a bit more.
Again, he is big, but there are other players with size that run faster, which does not bode well for him.
Darian Hagan, CB, California
7 of 7
The California cornerback measures in just under 6'0", 180 pounds and he would be expected to be a fast prospect.
Hagan ran only a 4.6 40 and also bench-pressed 225 pounds only five times.
He's not fast enough to be that weak for his size, and while he was not too high in the cornerback rankings, this certainly does not help.
