2011 NFL Offseason Two-a-Days: The New York Jets

Ryan FryeMar 9, 2011

This idea originated from ESPN's Mike & Mike.

5. Did QB Mark Sanchez progress as the team needed him to in 2010?

Mark Sanchez has potential, but he needs to be more consistent. When he's good, he's great. But when he's bad, he's downright awful.

If you look at third year quarterbacks from last year, Joe Flacco and Matt Ryan performed well. If Sanchez wants to live up to his draft status, he'll need to become more like Flacco and Ryan.

4. Did RB Shonn Grenne take a step back in 2010?

LaDainion Tomlinson was brought in to be a change of pace back, but he ended up leading the team in rushing.

Greene lost some carries to Tomlinson later in the year and really didn't produce like expected.

While the Jets running game was still very effective, Greene needs to carry the load in 2011 with LT only getting older.

3. Are the Jets still buying what Rex Ryan has to say?

It seems as if the players still love him. At least for now.

However, if the Jets start losing, Rex may be in trouble. I know this sounds like an obvious statement, but it's even more true with this team. If the team can't back up Rex's talk, they could get sick of him quickly.

2. What is the Jets' top priority in the NFL Draft and/or free agency?

The Jets need some fresh legs to rush the passer at outside linebacker. They released Jason Taylor, after just one year with the team. With Brian Thomas is aging, Akeem Ayers from UCLA would fit in really well.

Speaking of releases, the increasingly injured Kris Jenkins got the axe as well. They'll need to replace him, and Hampton's Kendrick Ellis would fit the bill perfectly.

1. Stock: rising or falling?

A major part of this depends on the development of Mark Sanchez. The Jets' running game and defense has been carrying them, but if they want to win it all, Sanchez will likely need to be more consistent.
