NFL Trade Rumors: Top 10 Teams That Might Make a Play for Vince Young
The 2011 NFL season is going to feature plenty of quirky conditions.
One of them will be the situation between the Tennessee Titans and QB Vince Young. The team has already gone on record to say they want no part of Young next season.
That means that the Titans will have 10 days to trade/release him as soon as a new CBA is agreed upon.
It’s an interesting situation. There are plenty of QB hungry teams on the one hand—but teams know the tough position the Titans are in.
A change of scenery is immanent, but where exactly will he go? What team can sweep the Titans off their feet?
Here are 10 potential landing spots for a QB that has a 30-17 career record as a starter.
10. Carolina Panthers
1 of 10
The Jimmy Clausen era has gotten off to a wobbly start and his job is by no means safe.
The Panthers may snag a QB with the No. 1 overall pick or the 33rd selection.
But considering there really isn’t a worthy QB out there to drop a No. 1 pick on, the Panthers may end up trading for a veteran with a winning pedigree.
Mr. Young fits that bill.
The Panthers have a new coach in Ron Rivera, so why not get a new QB too?
9. Buffalo Bills
2 of 10
Ryan Fitzpatrick is good for about 4-6 wins a season. Is that something you are OK with Buffalo fans?
The Bills should go for a guy like Young and hand him the keys to a stale offense. The ability to make plays with his feet is something the Bills have never had.
Pairing Young up with a back like C.J. Spiller would create a exciting tandem and would rejuvenate a beat-up fan base.
8. Cincinnati Bengals
3 of 10
The Bengals are another team with an awkward QB situation, and the Titans may be able to swap disgruntled QBs.
No two players in the league need fresh starts like Young and Carson Palmer.
Why not swap them and see if this wont benefit both franchises.
7. Oakland Raiders
4 of 10
With an attitude problem, work ethic issues and sense of entitlement, Young was meant to play for the Raiders.
Jason Campbell has the public backing of new head coach Hue Jackson, but 13 touchdowns, eight interceptions and a 84.5 passer rating doesn’t scream franchise QB.
You never know what Al Davis has up his sleeve, and trading for Young is not a stretch.
6. Miami Dolphins
5 of 10
Chad Henne is taking this team straight down the gutter, and the sooner the front office figures it out the better.
How in the world does a talented team like the Dolphins go 1-7 at home?
Young has played in some-what warm weather his whole life, and would be able to utilize Brandon Marshall effectively. Marshall has publicly complained about Henne, and we all know that Tyler Thigpen isn’t the answer.
Tony Sparano is on the hot seat and he needs a experienced QB to keep the heat on Miami's basketball arena.
5. Seattle Seahawks
6 of 10
Pete Carroll needs a new QB and he isn’t afraid to throw around picks to get one—cough—Charlie Whitehurst—cough.
Matt Hasselbeck has one good year left, and that may even be generous. The Seahawks were the surprise of the league last season after beating the defending champion New Orleans Saints.
Young may have shattered Carroll’s dreams of a championship in college, but he could certainly use his help now.
4. Washington Redskins
7 of 10
You never know what owner Daniel Snyder has up his sleeve, and giving up some draft picks for a veteran QB has been done before in Washington.
The Donovan McNabb experiment was a one-and-done and the ‘Skins are desperately trying to make their fans forget about it as quickly as possible.
Instead of taking the time to let a rookie QB develop, the Redskins could trade for Young and hope he just needs a change of scenery.
The Redskins are a veteran squad and acquiring a QB with a winning record (30-17) in his NFL career would keep the vets motivated.
3. San Francisco 49ers
8 of 10
Smith is a name that fans of the 49ers don't need in their lives.
Alex, the 2005 first overall pick that has never produced a winning season, is still on the team and getting praise from new coach Jim Harbaugh.
But all Niner fans know they are absolutely screwed if he is under center for most of the 2011 season. That’s what happens when you have more career INTs than TDs and a career QB rating of 72.
The other Smith, Troy, a fifth round pick, hasn’t done any better. He has been in the league for five years and has only eight career TD passes.
Young could provide stability at the position the 49ers have been weak at ever since Jeff Garcia left town.
2. Arizona Cardinals
9 of 10
The team that needs a QB more than any in the league—the Cardinals—would love to have any QB that is some-what competent.
Max Hall, John Skelton and Derek Anderson are all currently incapable of leading an NFL franchise to more than five wins.
Larry Fitzgerald knows that the prime of his career is rotting away and he will not be happy unless the Cardinals make a major move at the QB position.
Also remember that Young has never been able to throw to a receiver as talented as Fitzgerald.
1. Minnesota Vikings
10 of 10
The Vikings are an obvious choice considering they don’t even have a QB.
Brett Favre has finally retired (hopefully) and Tarvaris Jackson has already skipped town.
That leaves them with the unproven former third stringer Joe Webb. He didn't show enough in his brief time at QB to justify giving him the keys to the offense.
This team has a ton of talent on both sides of the ball and just need a QB to make them a serious contender.
Young would be the perfect fit and the Vikings would instantly be contenders in the rugged NFC North once again.
