Kevin Kolb Trade Rumors: Power Ranking the Top 10 Possible Destinations

Matt MillerJun 2, 2018

Kevin Kolb has asked for a trade. The Philadelphia Eagles would be dumb to ignore his request.

Few NFL teams have learned better than the Eagles and head coach Andy Reid the importance of developing back-up quarterbacks to be traded later. Mike Holmgren was the king of this in Green Bay, where he traded Matt Hasselbeck and Mark Brunell after grooming them behind Brett Favre.

Reid learned directly under Holmgren and knows how valuable quarterbacks can be on the trade market after sending Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins last spring in a trade for draft picks.

Kolb has made it clear he wants out, and with at least 12 NFL teams looking for an upgrade at quarterback this offseason the time is right for the Eagles to capitalize on his trade value.

The previous asking price for Kolb had been a first and second-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. The Eagles know this is too much to ask for and would instead "settle" for a late first or high second-round pick in the 2011 Draft and picks in the 2012 class.

1. Arizona Cardinals

Cardinals best offer: Pick No. 38 overall (2011), Round 1 pick in 2012 NFL Draft

The Cardinals current depth chart consists of Derek Anderson, Richard Bartel, Max Hall and John Skelton. If the 2011 season started today the Cardinals would quite frankly be screwed.

Anderson has proven that he does not belong as a starter, while the other three are simply too young and too inexperienced to be trusted to start.

Kolb would be an immediate upgrade at the position—which will keep wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald happy and allow the Cardinals to make a push for the playoffs in a weak, albeit improving, NFC West.

2. Minnesota Vikings

Vikings best offer: Pick No. 43 overall 2011 NFL Draft, 2012 Round 1 pick

The Vikings have the worst quarterback group of any team in the NFL on their roster right now with Joe Webb and Rhett Bomar. While both could develop in to nice NFL quarterbacks, neither is even close to ready to start on a team loaded at every other position.

The Vikings are this close to making a Super Bowl run. With a healthy roster in 2011 and key free agents (Sidney Rice) re-signed the Vikings could push for a Wild Card birth if they can get consistent play from the quarterback position.

Kolb also fits what Minnesota wants to do on offense under Bill Musgrave, who has made a nice name for himself working with Matt Ryan in Atlanta.

3. Tennessee Titans

Titans best offer: Vince Young or Pick No. 39 overall plus 2012 Round 2 Pick

Would the Eagles consider taking on Vince Young as their next reclamation project?

It may be unlikely, and the draft pick is definitely more valuable, but the Titans should at least float the offer to Andy Reid and Joe Banner.

The Titans need Kolb, or anyone, to come in and replace Young. Veteran Kerry Collins is a free agent but could be re-signed for one more year if need be.

The Titans are rebuilding after hiring a new coaching staff. Kolb would be the first piece to their new puzzle.

4. San Francisco 49ers

49ers best offer: No. 45 overall, 2012 1st Round pick

In what may be the most logical trade, Kolb would head west to play under Jim Harbaugh for the 49ers. This is a trade that on paper makes the most sense for everyone involved. This also means it probably will not happen.

The 49ers have only David Carr on the roster for 2011. There is zero chance they will enter 2011 with him as their starting quarterback. There are talks the team could re-sign Alex Smith, but this could also alienate a fan base that is tired of losing with Smith under center.

Using the No. 7 overall pick on a quarterback is also a possibility.

5. Seattle Seahawks

Seahawks best offer: Picks No. 25 and 153 overall

As pointed out his morning by Gregg Rosenthal of ProFootballTalk.com, the Seahawks look like a smart connection for Kolb if traded.

With no third round pick in the 2011 draft the Seahawks can counter with their late first-round pick and add in a fourth-rounder to compensate the Eagles.

With a few needs to address early in the draft this would be a hard offer for Philadelphia to pass by. Adding a second first-round pick would open up many possibilities for Philadelphia.

6. Cincinnati Bengals

Bengals best offer: Picks No. 35 and 100 overall

The Bengals early second-round pick would be enticing for Philadelphia, especially with an early third-rounder thrown in as well.

Many will look at this and say Cincinnati is giving away too much, but consider they would also be trading Carson Palmer for draft picks.

Another point to consider is that when healthy the Bengals are close to contending for a playoff spot. With a renewed focus on running the ball under new offensive coordinator Jay Gruden the Bengals will be dangerous in 2011.

If they have a quarterback.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars

Jaguars best offer: Pick No. 49 overall (2011), 2012 Round 1 Pick

Why would Jacksonville give up a second-round pick in 2011 AND a first-rounder in 2012?

Because they need to win, and David Garrard cannot beat the Colts.

This is a lot to give up for Kolb, but the Jaguars have few needs to fill outside adding a quarterback and improving their secondary. Jacksonville figures to draft a cornerback in Round 1 and can look at adding depth at safety in rounds three and later.

8. Buffalo Bills

Bills best offer: Pick No. 34 overall (2011)

The Bills may love Ryan Fitzpatrick, but they should call Joe Banner and offer their second-round pick straight-up for Kolb. And they should to this immediately after a new CBA is signed.

Fitzpatrick is a great story, and we do like him, but can he take Buffalo deep into the playoffs? Is he a franchise quarterback?

This much we know for sure. If Buffalo is considering drafting a quarterback in Round 2 to compete with Fitzpatrick they will not find a passer with the skills of Kevin Kolb available there.

9. Carolina Panthers

Panthers best offer: Steve Smith (WR) plus 2012 Round 1 Pick

The Panthers would not trade the No. 1 overall pick for Kolb, and with no pick in Round 2 after a 2010 trade with New England they cannot offer a second-round pick.

Carolina can offer veteran receiver Steve Smith plus a 2012 pick. This might not seem like enough, but remember Carolina will most likely be picking very high in the first round next year.

10. Washington Redskins

Redskins best offer: No. 49 overall, 2011 Round 1 pick.

This may be the best overall deal for the Eagles, but would they consider trading another quarterback within the division? And more importantly, would Washington want Kolb after Donovan McNabb's failed year in D.C.?

The Eagles would love to make the Redskins weaker by stealing draft picks from them, but we do not believe Andy Reid would want to face Kevin Kolb twice every year.
