Fantasy Football Week Four Waiver Wire

Michael WhooleySep 28, 2008

With so many teams on bye weeks, we were left with less football and less options for the waiver wire. Though there weren’t as many games, there was certainly plenty of action.

The Kansas City Chiefs got their first win, dominating the unbeaten Denver Broncos, the Washington Redskins beat the Dallas Cowboys on the road in the last year of the old Texas Stadium, and some guy named Brett Favre threw six touchdown passes.

This week, injuries and players being benched have opened the door for the guys on the Week Four Waiver Wire. Also, be sure to check out the watch list, especially if you’re in a deeper league looking for that little extra edge.

While the players may not agree with the benching of former starter Marc Bulger, Green is the guy. That is, until coach Scott Linehan gets fired. Many league insiders are reporting Linehan could be fired as soon as this week and if that happens, Bulger will likely be the starter again.

But if Green remains the starter, he’s worth a look. Green’s a heady veteran with a good arm and some weapons around him. As long as he doesn’t try to scramble and get knocked in the head again, Green has some value as a fantasy backup.

Still, the situation in St. Louis is quickly becoming messy, so keep your eye on everything that’s going on before giving a roster spot to Green.

JaMarcus Russell (Oakland Raiders)

Russell was asked to throw a lot against the Chargers and passed the test as he was 22-of-37 for 277 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He is starting to grow up and become an NFL passer, and with an arm like his, it’s hard to ignore his fantasy potential.

Similar to Green, Russell will be limited by how well his line plays, which so far has just been mediocre, so make sure there aren’t better options out there before picking him up.

RUNNING BACKS

Deuce McAllister (New Orleans Saints)

Finally back from injury, McAllister proved he’s still got some left in the tank as he rushed 20 times for 73 yards and a touchdown in the win over San Francisco. The Saints run game works a lot better with him and Bush running rather than Bush and Pierre Thomas/Aaron Stecker.

The other thing to note was that McAllister received twice as many carries than Bush did in the game, so it’s clear that the injury won’t limit his role at all.
