Matt Bryant Is One of the Most Respected Players in the NFL

Dan ParzychSep 28, 2008

As an Eagles' fan, the one memory of Matt Bryant that sticks in my head the most is his unbelievable 62 yard game-winning field goal against the Birds in Tampa Bay during the 2005 season.

Now when I think of Matt Bryant, I'll always think of him as one of the most respected players in the NFL.

I want to start off by saying my thoughts and prayers go out to Matt and his entire family. I can't even imagine what they are all going through right now after dealing with the loss of their three month old son.

On Wednesday morning, Bryant and his wife woke up to find out their three-month old son Tryson had passed away.

A day after burying his son in Texas, Bryant provided three field goals for the Buccaneers as they went on to defeat the Green Bay Packers 30-21 on Sunday.

Unfortunantely, we have all dealt with death at some point in our lives. I have lost many friends and family over the years and I know how tough it can be.

However, I can never imagine what it's like to deal with a loss of a child.

What Matt Bryant did on Sunday was one of the most heroic things I've ever seen anybody do in my life. Most people in his situation would want some time off from their normal day-to-day activities. Instead, Bryant knew he had a job to do.

On Sunday, it didn't matter if you are a Tampa Bay Buccaneer fan or not. Everybody who loves the game of football was rooting for Matt Bryant and the Buccaneers to win.

The best part about Sunday was the Buccaneers were able to win the game that Bryant dedicated to his son Tryson. When I listened to Bryant's press conference on Sunday, I was at a loss of words.

All Bryant knew was he had to do everything he can to win this game for his son. He knew his son was there in spirit guiding him and the Buccaneers to victory. This game was about him.

What I witnessed with Matt Bryant on Sunday was one of the most memorable moments I've witnessed in all my years watching football. I can't even imagine what it would be like to lose a child. The fact that Bryant was able to play this weekend after everything he's been through just amazes me.

Matt Bryant is one of the most respected players in the NFL in my book. Nobody deserves to go through what he has been through in the past week. I wish for nothing but the best for Bryant and his family. I'm glad him and the Buccaneers were able to pull off the victory for Bryant and Tryson.
