Strikeforce Columbus Results: What's Next for the Winners?

Sean SmithJun 6, 2018

At Strikeforce: Columbus, Dan Henderson cemented his legacy as one of the great MMA fighters of all time by securing his third championship with a knockout win over Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante. Also, Marloes Coenen defended her belt in a nail-biter.

Both champions faced adversity on their ways to victory. Henderson was rocked by Cavalcante early in their fight, while Coenen was dominated by Liz Carmouche in the second and third rounds before winning by submission. Surely, there will be more tough tests ahead for these two fighters. Here is what may be in store for Henderson, Coenen and the other winners from Strikeforce: Columbus' main card.

Dan Henderson

1 of 4

Once again, Dan Henderson is a champion. Now, Henderson will try to successfully defend a title for the first time. Working against Henderson is the fact that the last four Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champions lost in their first attempted title defense.

Henderson's first test will most likely come against the winner of a fight between Mike Kyle and Gegard Mousasi.

Marloes Coenen

2 of 4

Despite an early scare against Liz Carmouche, Marloes Coenen survived to retain her Strikeforce Women's Welterweight Championship with a triangle choke. The win marked Coenen's first title defense.

Before Carmouche was pegged as a late replacement, Coenen had been scheduled to fight Miesha Tate. Once Tate recovers from injury, it seems likely that she would fight Coenen for the title.

Tim Kennedy

3 of 4

At Strikeforce: Columbus, Tim Kennedy took on Melvin Manhoef. After taking a few hard leg kicks from Manhoef, Kennedy decided it probably would be a better idea to take the fight to the ground. Once there, Kennedy quickly took Manhoef's back and ended the fight with a submission.

After the fight, Kennedy called out Robbie Lawler. With little else in terms of fresh competition for Kennedy, Strikeforce will likely grant him his request with a bout against Lawler.

Jorge Masvidal

4 of 4

After giving a heavier Paul Daley a tough fight, Jorge Masvidal was quickly invited to join Strikeforce's lightweight ranks. In his first fight with the organization, Masvidal performed extremely well in handing Billy Evangelista the first loss of his career.

After two consecutive performances like Masvidal has had, it is time for a fight with a top Strikeforce lightweight such as Gesias Cavalcante or K.J. Noons.
