Strikeforce Main Card Result: Jorge Masvidal Earns Decision Win over Evangelista

Strikeforce and Bleacher Report are live from Nationwide Arena in Columbus, OH.

Lightweights, Jorge Masvidal (21-6) and Billy Evangelista (11-1) went three rounds in the opening bout of the main card. Masvidal took all three on the judges scorecards, earning the unanimous decision and derailing the title hopes of Evangelista.

Round 1:

Kicks from Evangelista land early. Masvidal catches a kick an briefly takes Evangelista down but Evangelista stands, clinches, and presses Masvidal against the cage working towards a takedown.

They separate. Evangelista misses with strikes and Masvidal makes him pay with a combination. Evangelista does not like that and is successful with a takedown, but does minimal damage from the position.

Masvidal works his way back standing. Evangelista is unsuccessful with a low kick. Punches miss for Evangelista, but his low kick lands. Punches miss for Masvidal and Evangelista fails on a late takedown.

Masvidal: 10-9

Round 2:

Both fighters striking with Evangelista looking for takedowns, but with no luck.

Masvidal catches a kick and puts Evangelista on his back, but not for long as Evangelista pops back to his feet. Jab for Masvidal lands and Evangelista fails on a takedown attempt.

Short flurry of punches from Evangelista fail and Masvidal avoids.

Terrible shot by Evangelista that Masvidal stuffs and uses to take his opponent to the canvas. Evangelista stands and Masvidal presses him against the cage.

They break and Evangelista is looking to strike, but isn't having any success and the crowd boos as the second round comes to a close.

Evangelista: 10-9

Round 3:

Strikes from both men are being thrown, but neither fighter is finding much success.

One jab lands for Masvidal and then another. He times an Evangelista kick with a right hand that finds its mark. Masvidal's pressing Evangelista against the cage, but can't secure a takedown and they separate.

Not much action and the crowd boos and a chant of "We want the women" breaks out.

Evangelista engages and eats a punch from Masvidal. Evangelista's pressing forward and shoots without success.
