Tim Tebow: 10 Reasons He's the Denver Broncos' Best QB Option

Eric BallJun 7, 2018

The 2011 Denver Broncos have a bevy of issues to deal with.

How can they fix the worst statistical defense in the NFL?

How can the Broncos improve the 26th ranked rushing attack?

How will the team respond to new head coach John Fox?

None of these questions compare to the biggest one of all: Who will be the starting QB?

Tim Tebow was the 25th overall pick in last year’s draft, and the Broncos had to give up multiple picks just to get him. Tebow saw limited action and went 1-and-2 in three starts.

Kyle Orton was the throw-in for the Jay Cutler trade two years ago, and has been the Broncos' starter for the last two underachieving seasons.

The Broncos need to go with the unknown and hope for the best. Here are 10 reasons the Broncos have to put No. 15 under center in 2011.

10. Broncos Gave Up Too Much to Not Play Him

How often does a team give up a second, third, and fourth round pick for one guy that hasn’t even stepped foot in an NFL locker room?

That’s what Josh McDaniels and the Broncos did with Tebow.

The Broncos wanted to ensure they got their man, and they paid a hefty price in doing so. Imagine how much more depth the defense would have right now if they had kept those picks?

Clearly, the Broncos front office had a lot of faith in Tebow. So why wouldn't they give him every chance to succeed.

9. Oozes With Potential

The big knock on Tebow coming out of college was his throwing motion. While it certainly isn’t perfect, his mechanics have already greatly improved.

His 6’3, 245-pound frame is extremely unique for a QB. He averaged 5.3 yards per carry on 43 rushing attempts in his rookie season looking more like a fullback than QB.

Before starting the final three games, Tebow was utilized in goal-line situations where the team was within the five-yard line. He rewarded the Broncos with six rushing TDs on the season.

If his throwing mechanics continue to develop...the sky is the limit for "Timmy Touchdown."

8. Incredible Work Ethic

People can make fun of Tebow all they want for his intensity and religious beliefs, but they can’t knock his attitude. He is an incredibly hard worker that never settles for anything less than perfection.

Stories of his late-night film sessions and early morning workouts at Broncos' training facilities are already the stuff of legends.

Look at the progress he has made with his throwing motion.

There is something in Tebow’s DNA that forces him to never settle. He isn’t satisfied until he can prove all of his critics wrong.

7. Orton Leading Broncos Half Way to Nowhere

The Broncos somehow won the first six games in the Kyle Orton era, but finished that season 2-and-8. In 2010, he went 3-and-10, which means he has won five of his last 28 starts for the Broncos.

This is a guy that has to start?

Tebow may not lead the Broncos to the playoffs right away, but he is going to win more than five of his first 28 starts.

6. Mature Beyond His Years

The 23-year old has the maturity of a 30-year old QB. He says all the right things to the media, and will never be found on the police blotter.

Football is his life—it’s what he lives and breathes. There will never be a time when fans will question the passion of Tebow.

He will never demand a trade or threaten retirement (cough—Carson Palmer—cough), and is an ideal player to build a team around. His efforts in the Denver community have already garnered him praise from around the community—and he was only a rookie.

As his time in the NFL increases, so will his already incredible maturity.

5. Already Has the Support of Bronco Fans

The “Unleashed the Tebow” T-shirt became a phenomenon in Denver as the season went along.

As Orton and the Broncos continued to pile up the losses, the clamoring for Tebow grew louder and louder on the sports talk radio waves, and even at the stadium.

His jersey was the top selling one in the ENTIRE league for most of the season. Fans love Tebow. He is already one of the most marketable players in the league and, more importantly, a guy the Broncos can mold their franchise around.

At the very least, he will keep butts in the seats at Invesco Field.

4. Showed Flashes of Greatness in Small Sample Size

DENVER - DECEMBER 26: Quarterback Tim Tebow #15 of the Denver Broncos escapes a diving effort by defensive tackle Earl Mitchell #92 of the Houston Texans on his way to scoring the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter at INVESCO Field at Mile High

The Broncos found themselves down 23-10 to the Houston Texans entering the fourth quarter of Tebow’s second career start.

Under the guidance of Tebow, the Broncos score two fourth quarter TDs and pulled off the come-from-behind victory.

Tebow calmly tossed a 23-yard TD to Correll Buckhalter to get within striking distance. On the Broncos' next possession, Tebow marched the Broncos down the field on a 76-yard drive, culminating in a six-yard TD run by Tebow and victory number one for the rookie.

His poise and fearlessness were on full display in that late afternoon thriller in Denver. It was only a sneak-peak of what’s to come.

3. Intangibles off the Chart

The leadership that he has already shown is incredible. Tebow has already won over the Bronco locker room with his desire to win and his work ethic.

Why else would Champ Bailey agree to sign his last major contract with a team that just went 4-and-12?

The players have already bought into Tebow, and that is half the battle in the NFL.

Combine the leadership with his incredible poise and emotion, and you have yourself the ingredients to a successful NFL QB.

2. Check the Resume

He is one of the most accomplished players in the history of college football.

Check out just a few of his accomplishments:

2X BCS National Champion
2X First-team All-American
3X First Team All-SEC
A.P. Player of the Year
Heisman Trophy Winner
NCAA QB of the Year

Wow.

You can’t ask for a better college resume than that in the hardest conference in America. Sure, not all great college players pan out in the NFL, but it’s hard to deny a resume like that.

Tebow is a winner, and that is a trait that can’t be taught.

1. Younger, More Talented, and a Better Athlete

This isn’t the Kyle Orton trash talk hour, but the facts are the facts.

Tebow is an incredible athlete that is a hybrid combo of QB and fullback. Orton is a pocket passer that is as slow as molasses. Orton’s longest career run in 61 NFL starts is 15 yards—Tebow almost tripled that in three games.

Both players have proven to be quite durable so injury risk is a moot point.

The difference lies in leadership and potential. Orton is 28 and has never won more than eight games. Tebow has all of the potential in the world, and just needs a chance to showcase it.

UNLEASH THE TEBOW!!!!
