NFL News and Rumors: 7 Free Agents and Their Potential New Homes

Zachary CohenJun 2, 2018

With all of the depressing talk about the lockout, I'm going to go the optimistic route and talk about NFL free agency.

There are a lot of free agents this off-season that are going to gauge a lot of interest. With that said, here are seven free agents and the teams I think will be most interested in them.

Terrell Owens (WR)

The T.O. and Chad Johnson (or Ochocinco, Hachi Go or whatever you want to call him) dynamic duo is unfortunately no more. T.O. is a free agent this summer, and although he's a head case, somebody is going to take a chance on him yet again. Who will that team be?

Chicago Bears

The Bears were a game away from the Super Bowl this season. Their biggest position of need just so happens to be a big, game-changing wide receiver. Owens is going to be relatively cheap because of his attitude and age, but he has shown he can still produce, and with Jay Cutler he could be much better than he was last year with Carson Palmer.

The Bears have surprisingly stayed away from available wide receivers the past few years, but their need for one is too great to ignore at this point. Look for them to make a play for Owens this summer.

Tommie Harris (DT)

Tommie Harris was recently cut, but he should have no problem finding a new home. Where will that home be, and with what team?

New York Jets

Rex Ryan loves players with defensive intensity and physical talent. Tommie Harris has that, and he is an already proven player with some injury concerns.

If the Jets can get Harris for the right price, it wouldn't surprise me if they move him to defensive end to fit their system, which I think would work wonderfully. He's a good defensive player with great football instincts and could make the Jets defense even scarier.

Tarvaris Jackson (QB)

Jackson's days as the franchise QB who never got a chance to play in Minnesota are done. Jackson is an athletic quarterback who throws a relatively nice ball. If he finds the right coach, he could be a good quarterback in this league. What team is going to take a chance on Tarvaris?

Cincinnati Bengals

Carson Palmer has openly discussed his desire to never play in a Bengals uniform again, and if they do get rid of him, Jackson could be a cheap option to attempt to develop. Marvin Lewis is a good coach who might be able to turn Jackson into a solid QB.

DeAngelo Williams (RB)

DeAngelo Williams has been a Panther his entire career, and he has every desire to stay in Carolina. The problem is this is a business, and they may not be able to pay him the money he deserves. Who can pay him the money he deserves?

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts haven't had a good running back since Joseph Addai in his glory days, and Williams could be a great fit for them. Williams has the talent to rush for 1,000-plus yards and 12-plus touchdowns with his speed and ability to make tacklers miss.

Having Peyton Manning and Williams would make the Colts offense even more powerful, and it is something I expect the Colts to look into.

Ronnie Brown (RB)

The wildcat days of Ronnie Brown are likely finished. The Dolphins aren't going to re-sign him, and he now needs a new place to play. A team that could be interested?

New England Patriots

The Patriots haven't had a running back with as much talent as Brown in years, and because of his history with injuries, he could be a good option for the Patriots, who don't like to overpay for players. Brown would give Belichick a new toy to play with, and I'm sure Brady would appreciate having a running back capable of rushing for over 100 yards on any given Sunday.

Sidney Rice (WR)

The Vikings are going to likely lose out on their wide receiver Sidney Rice. Rice is coming off a season in which he was severely injured, but he came back the last few weeks and showed flashes of the type of player he once was. What team out there will take a chance on Rice?

San Diego Chargers

The Chargers are going to need a No. 1 receiver, and Rice is going to be a much cheaper option than Vincent Jackson will be. Jackson was the main guy in San Diego last year, but he's going to demand a huge contract that they won't be able to pay him.

Rice would give Philip Rivers a tall receiver with good hands that is capable of making the same down the field plays that Jackson was. It would surprise me if the Chargers don't strongly covet Sidney.

Nnamdi Asomugha (CB)

The NFL world was shocked when the Raiders decided to cut ties with Nnamdi Asomugha. Some believe Nnamdi is the best cornerback in the NFL, and the number of opposing quarterbacks that avoid him might be proof of that.

There are going to be tons of teams in the market for the talented young corner, but where do I think he'll end up?

San Francisco 49ers

Deep down I feel like Nnamdi would like to remain in California. The 49ers are an on the rise team that with Asomugha can not only make the playoffs but maybe even make a run while they're in them as well. They need a shutdown corner in San Francisco, and it's going to be an appealing place to play for the former Raider.
