Women's Tennis: Can Kim Clijsters Knock Serena out of the Picture, Take Title?
It seems that Serena has another injury, one that is life threatening.
Her agents confirmed that Williams was diagnosed with a blot clot in her lungs, which is called pulmonary embolism. This is currently life threatening and could have possibly killed her. Due to this, she may never come back to tennis or will have to take a break for a few months, or maybe even years.
The question is: Who will take her place in being the best now?
There is only one player that comes to mind for me, unfortunately, and I will have to admit it might be (gulp) Kim Clijsters.
Now, your initial thought might be, "Yes! I knew it!" But for people that refuse to believe it, (maybe me, too) she might actually be able to take the title for best player in her year...for now.
Clijsters may be able to rise to the top because of Serena's injury, Henin's unfortunate retirement and Venus' current injury, which can affect her game play and skill.
Without them, Kim may be able to complete every tennis player's goal: to reach No. 1 and be the best player in her year. This may not be the case though for Serena may come back, (hope she does). But if she doesn't Kim will be able to take her play to the next level without the competition.
There are still a few obstacles for her though, such as Caroline Wozniacki, Li Na, Francesca Schiavone and many more. You should also take her words seriously; I recall hearing her saying that she will retire next year, which might also be an obstacle.
This may be a little bit of speculating right now, but the main question is, will Kim really be able to take the title?
