NFL News and Rumors: Can't We Just Have Football Next Season, Mr. Goodell?

Joseph HigginsMar 3, 2011

In a sport that has taken the nation by storm over the years and developed into America's most popular sport, the fanbase would hate to see it go, but is that what's ultimately going to happen?

Today, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and his team met up with the NFLPA Executive Director Demaurice Smith along with his crew. Goodell arrived to the meeting almost an hour ahead of schedule.

Finally, the NFL fanbase will see what happens after all of the mayhem and deliberating as the deadline will be met when the clock strokes midnight. Or the deadline could even be extended if need be.

The problem right now is that no big moves are being made—no one is stepping up to the plate and trying to make something happen out there.

"We're talking," union president Kevin Mawae said Wednesday. "It's better than not talking."-From NFL.com

An NFL player lockout is certainly in the mix if no moves are made within the next 12 hours or longer if extended. It's inevitable that nothing gets done if no one talks or makes a move.

The solution? Just talk and figure something out. Even if it's just arguing back and forth, a deal is bound to be created after arguing for sometime.

Owner's have already motioned what they want out of all of this, including the expandsion of the regular season from 16 games to 18 games—in return only having two preseason games.

It's a long shot, but the lengthening of the regular season wouldn't be such a bad idea, financially. While preseason games don't attract a crowd as large as a regular season game would, adding two more regular season games could bring in revenue as far as ticket sales and other miscellaneous items that could be purchased at the stadium.

On the other hand, that's two more games in which players will risk their body on the field and can suffer the consequences of getting injured. The health of the players has to be considered as well.

However, if no one decides to talk today, what make's them think that in a couple of more days or even weeks they'll be more willing to talk things over?

As much as any fan would hate to see their favorite sport not be played next season, NFL 2011 might not happen if talking doesn't happen.
