NFL Trade Rumors: Odds These 10 Teams Land Carson Palmer

Eric BallJun 2, 2018

Trade demands are nothing new in Bengal-dom and Carson Palmer is just the latest to beg for a ticket out of town.

He has requested a trade to owner Mike Brown and if not, he will retire.

At first many believed it was a situation similar to the one Boomer Esiason went through with the team in the early 1990s. Demand a trade, play one more uninspired year in Cincy, then get traded.

But Palmer's recent comments have many around the league thinking this might be for real:

“I will never set foot in Paul Brown Stadium again. I have $80 million in the bank. I don’t have to play football for money. I’ll play it for the love of the game but that would have to be elsewhere. I’m prepared to live my life,” Palmer told WCPO-TV in Cincinnati.

Those are strong words and they surely have gotten the attention of the Bengals front office. Maybe Palmer really is serious.

Let’s take a look at 10 teams that would love to land the two-time Pro Bowler.

10. Carolina Panthers—20/1

The Jimmy Clausen era has gotten off to a rocky start and they may end up drafting a QB with the No. 1 overall pick.

But considering there really isn’t a worthy QB out there to drop a No. 1 pick on…the Panthers may end up trading for a veteran like Palmer.

The Panthers have a new coach in Ron Rivera so why not get a new QB too?

They don’t have a great shot considering they are in the exact opposite direction of his home state of California but the Panthers have some very appealing draft assets to give the Bengals.

9. San Diego Chargers—18/1

Phillip Rivers isn’t going anywhere…this is more of an insurance policy. Rivers is extremely tough and durable and has been luckily in avoiding a major injury.

San Diego is as close to Fresno  (Palmer’s hometown) as any NFL team and he may be willing to make a lot of sacrifices in order to be close to home.

His wife recently had their third child and Palmer hasn’t been shy about saying he wants to raise his kids in southern California.

8. Minnesota Vikings—15/1

The Vikings are an obvious choice considering they don’t have a QB.

Brett Favre has finally retired (we think) and Tarvaris Jackson is as good as gone. That leaves them with the unproven former third stringer Joe Webb.

This team has a ton of talent on both sides of the ball and just need a QB to make them a serious contender.

New coach Leslie Frazier has been a coach with the Bengals before and is already familiar with how Palmer operates.

7. Washington Redskins—13/1

You never know what owner Daniel Snyder has up his sleeve and giving up some draft picks for a veteran QB has been done before in Washington.

The Donovan McNabb experiment was a disaster and the ‘Skins are desperately trying to make their fans forget about it quickly.

Instead of taking the bumps and bruises that go with a rookie QB…the Redskins could take a chance on Palmer and hope he just needs a change of scenery.

6. Miami Dolphins—12/1

Chad Henne is taking this team absolutely nowhere and the sooner the front office figures it out the better.

How in the world did the somewhat talented ‘Fins go 1-and-7 at home??

Palmer likes the warm weather and would be able to utilize Brandon Marshall the way he is supposed to be used. Marshall has publicly complained about Henne and we all know that Tyler Thigpen isn’t the answer.

Tony Sparano's job is on the line and he needs a experienced QB to keep his behind off the hot seat.

5. Oakland Raiders—10/1

Another So-Cal location that would make Palmer happy, Oakland is still not completely sure who the 2011 QB is going to be.

Jason Campbell has the public backing of new head coach Hue Jackson, but 13 touchdowns, eight interceptions and a 84.5 passer rating doesn’t scream franchise QB.

Jackson was the wide receivers coach in Cincinnati from 2004-2006 and is very familiar with Palmer. The combo would be a smooth transition into a stable offense in Oakland.

Besides, Palmer is already used to a crazy owner that tries to micromanage every part of the team.

4. Tennessee Titans—8/1

The Titans are done with Vince Young and Kerry Collins has been over-the-hill for the past three years.

Considering they have the blazing fast Chris Johnson on their side, they aren’t too far away from being a solid offense.

Palmer could play with a top-flight runner for the first time in his career and it would allow him to relax. He has had all of the pressure on his shoulders for the duration of his career; let’s see what Palmer can do when the heat is turned down a bit.

3. Seattle Seahawks—6/1

Head coach Pete Carroll was with Palmer at USC and that turned out pretty well considering Carson was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 draft after winning a Heisman Trophy.

Matt Hasselbeck has one good year left and that may even be generous.

Charlie Whitehurst?

No way.

Palmer may be past his prime; but he still has around four productive years left in him. Going back to the West Coast and having a familiar face as a coach makes Seattle a top contender for his services.

2. Arizona Cardinals—4/1

The team that needs a QB more than any in the league—the Cardinals—would love to have Palmer.

Max Hall, John Skelton and Derek Anderson are all…how should I put this nicely…garbage.

Larry Fitzgerald knows that the prime of his career is rotting away with nobody to throw him the ball and he will not be happy unless the Cardinals make a splash.

Palmer would keep Fitzgerald happy and revive a team that is still only a few years removed from almost winning the Super Bowl.

1. San Francisco 49ers—EVEN

Smith is a name that fans of the 49ers are very sick of hearing.

Alex, the 2005 first overall pick that has never paned out, still is on the team and getting praise from new coach Jim Harbaugh.

But we all know the Niners are absolutely screwed if he is under center for most of the 2011 season. That’s what happens when you have more career INTs than TDs and a career QB rating of 72.

The other Smith, Troy, a fifth round pick, hasn’t done any better. He has been in the league for five years and only has eight career TD passes.

Upgrading to Palmer could make the California guy happy, and it would provide stability at a position they so desperately need it.

It's a match made in heaven.
