NHL Trade Rumors: Who Are the Edmonton Oilers Selling Off?

Erik PaulJun 7, 2018

The Edmonton Oilers are widely expected to be one of the most active teams on deadline day because they're one of the few teams far enough out of the playoffs to be definite sellers.

Are there untouchables on the Oilers?

Yes. Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Magnus Paajarvi are definite untouchables. But almost everyone else on the Oilers could be involved in a deal if the price is right.

Who are most likely to be moved?

Dustin Penner

Several teams are reportedly interested in power forward Dustin Penner, including Los Angeles, Minnesota, Montreal and Nashville.

Penner is one of the most likely Oilers to be traded because he could provide a good return for the Oilers and could help a team a lot in the playoffs.

Ladislav Smid

Ladislav Smid is a very desirable option for many teams because his salary is only $1.3 million and it's the last year of his contract.

He's only 25 years old and is a pretty good number four or five defenseman who skates well.

Nashville has been mentioned by several sources (@NHLSourcesSay and TSN's Bob McKenzie) as a front runner for Smid.

Ales Hemsky

The Los Angeles Kings are pushing hard for Ales Hemsky, but according to @OilersReport, the Phoenix Coyotes are also interested.

The Predators were in on Hemsky negotiations, but according to Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal, the Preds are definitely out now.

According to @hockeyyinsiderr, "Rumor update: hearing Cogliano might be plan B for if they can't agree to price with ."

Obviously, #stars is referring to Brad Richards.

Cogliano also made TSN's list of forwards who are likely to be traded.

Oilers depth forward Ryan Jones is drawing some interest around the league.

Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reported (via Twitter) "Don't know why but I hear oilers might move ufa winger ryan jones who has 13 goals playing 12 min."

He's an upcoming UFA and if the Oilers can't get him re-signed, they could very well trade him.
