Lauri Korpikoski Set To Make The Jump

Ryan McFaddenSep 26, 2008

The Rangers 2004 1st round draft pick appears ready to make the NHL club for the first time after his showing at training camp and in the pre-season.  The 22 year old has registered a point in every pre-season game hes played thus far, totaling two goals and an assist. His goal last night against Kari Romo and the Lightning was a beaut as he made a strong move from the corner, cut to the net, and then finished off the goalie Romo with a nice move.  It was a goal scorers goal.

If Korpikoski can continue to produce, he can provide excellent secondary scoring from the third or even the second line at some point during the season. ‘Korpedo’ had 23 goals last year for Hartford and played in one game for the Rangers in round two of the playoffs against the Penguins. In that game Korpedo scored a huge goal in the third period that tied the game and forced overtime. Korpikoski would fit in nicely alongside Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Callahan. Korpikoski has earned himself a spot on this team.
