Dominick Cruz Video: Watch UFC Champ Call out Fellow Bantamweight Urijah Faber
Bleacher Report Exclusive: UFC Champ Dominick Cruz Calls Out Urijah Faber
Dominick Cruz holds the distinct honor of being the final WEC Bantamweight Champion and the first UFC Bantamweight Champion. He defeated Scott Jorgensen at WEC 53, the final WEC event, to unify the two championships.
Cruz has largely been missing in action since that victory over Jorgensen in December thanks to a broken hand, but he vows to get back in the cage sometime very soon.
"My hand, it's doing awesome. It's healing faster then I ever expected," Cruz said. "Dr. Lombardi, thank you."
Obviously the hot topic in the conversation was Urijah Faber. These two have had quite a contentious history. Faber defeated Cruz at WEC 26 in 2007, which is the only loss of Cruz' career. It was believed that the first fight that both Cruz and Faber would have in UFC would be against each other for the Bantamweight Title.
With the injury to Cruz' hand, Faber will take on Eddie Wineland at UFC 128. With a victory there, Faber could get his match with Cruz later on this year. When Cruz was asked about Faber's recent comments, he didn't shy away at all.
"(Faber) called me a d-bag, like nobody's ever heard that before. You know you can't make everybody like you," Cruz said. "He's playing the card that Cruz chose me as his enemy, he's a horrible guy, this-and-that. Whatever."
Cruz even extended an invite to Faber to join him at Alliance MMA, where Cruz trains, to make sure that he would be ready for the fight with Wineland.
Whether you like Cruz or not, the man knows how to poke the bear. He understands that Faber is kind of the people's champion, and he doesn't mind playing the villain one bit. Hopefully, Faber is able to take out Wineland next month so that way we can get the long awaited, much anticipated fight with Cruz later on this year.
Perhaps the two men could coach on "The Ulimate Fighter" as a little bit of a prelude to the big event, assuming that it happens. There has been a lot of talk of those two coaching on the show sometime soon, and Cruz is definitely up for it.
"'The Ulimate Fighter' show is something that would be awesome to be a part of. It's been like the building blocks of the UFC. After 'The Ulimate Fighter' came out it exploded. It would be huge for all the 135-pounders that are coming to the UFC."
