UFC 127 Fight Card Video: Retired UFC Fighter Mike Guymon Makes Prediction

marcos villegasFeb 24, 2011

Fght correspondent Marcos Villegas, the only man actively covering both boxing and MMA on video, recently caught up with a few MMA fighters over the weekend to give their UFC 127 picks. Though the man they call the “Joker” was the only one willing to go on camera.

The other two fighters, who we hit up that had ties to both Penn and Fitch, did not want to go on record with who they were picking to win. They did talk to us off camera and both mentioned that it was Fitch’s fight to take.

So what happens when a guy known for really great and technical take downs - and who always gets them - goes up against a guy who is know for rarely getting taken down? Talk about a wash, size and stand up may very well be the telling piece in the overall pie of this fight.

Guymon, who recently retired from fighting gave us how he saw the fight going down.

“I would hate to bet on this fight but my gut is telling me Fitch,” stated Guymon.

You must be wondering why he is leaning that way...well he let us in on that too.

“Fitch has some amazing training partners at American Kickboxing Academy, Look at all the welterweight fighters he has in there. I think he is going to be ready for this fight, his cardio is looking good and it will be that much to put him over the top.”

Will Guymon be correct this weekend?

It all depends on which BJ Penn shows up - as well as how he will be able to handle the overall size difference that Fitch has over the smaller Penn. One thing is for sure, fans would much rather see Penn take on Georges St. Pierre for a third time rather than Fitch for a second.
