Brandon Vera: 'No Clue What's Going on With Thiago Silva's Drug Result'

marcos villegasFeb 23, 2011

Fight Hub TV’s OG fight correspondent, Marcos Villegas, caught up with Brandon Vera at a local amateur event, wanting to ask about the much talked about Thiago Silva situation he finds himself in.

The two fought at UFC 125, where Silva was declared the winner after a three-round war. The end result marked Vera’s third straight defeat, and as a result he was served a pink slip by the Las Vegas based-promotion.

In the weeks leading up to this interview, it was revealed that all drug tests had come back clean for the exception of Thiago Silva. Though one urine sample passed, another one did not and a murky cloud of suspicion still hovers over the final result.

Many insider sources are claiming that Silva did in fact fail the drug test, which would overturn the result of the January 1 bout between the two light heavyweight fighters. With the potential of the bout being ruled a no contest, Vera probably would be reinstated by the UFC.

As of current, Vera, when we caught up with him, had no idea what was going on with the drug result, though he believes if it comes back positive he should be let back into the UFC. As for the fight itself, Vera was surprised he was taken down as much as he was against Silva, but it was for a reason: "He didn’t want none (standing). You know you didn’t want none, that’s why you took me down. You still don’t want none.”

When the topic of Silva hand-slapping Vera while he had him pinned up against the cage, Vera responded with, "When I saw the fight (at home) I just saw a guy who was super excited. Maybe in his wildest dreams he never thought he would be beating me. Imagine if you just hit the lottery? How would you act? Would you care? No.... Maybe the realization came that he was beating me, that he was doing it.”
