Regret and Remorse: Arsene Wenger Backs Barcelona's Thierry Henry

Salaar ShamsiSep 26, 2008

When Thierry Henry left Arsenal for Barcelona, he would've hoped for so much more.

It hasn't gone to plan for the ex-Arsenal captain, losing the title to Real Madrid, the sacking of Frank Riijkard, and being forced to play on the left by Pep Guardiola.

A year or more on, Arsenal have moved on, Emmanuel Adebayor's rise has ment Henry's memories have rapidly declined in the minds of most Arsenal supporters.

Perhaps the Frenchman is regretting the day he made the decision to quit Arsenal.

Despite the bleak circumstances, there's a man who still feels Henry can overcome it all.

His motivation for years at Highbury was a certain Frenchman, Arsene Wenger.

After a relatively ordinary start to his career at Monaco and Juventus, Wenger believed in Henry's ability and brought him over to the Gunners.

Henry's backer for several years in North London still believes that the former's career will see daylight again.

"I want him to be happy first of all because he made us happy for years," Wenger said Friday at a prematch press conference. "The least you want for him is to be happy and at the moment he is not."

"I feel at the moment that he is too young for the end of his career and I know he can still play at that level."

Replying to a question, Wenger revealed he would welcome Henry in North London at any time in the latter's career.
