New England's Possible Patriots: Draft Prospect DE J.J. Watt

The New England Patriots have two picks in the first round of the NFL draft at 17th and 28th. The Patriots' biggest need is improvement to their pass rush, and it's expected that New England will address that need in a big way during this year's draft. 

As of right now, many mock drafts have the Patriots selecting Wisconsin defensive end J.J. Watt.

Height: 6-foot-6

Weight: 292 pounds

Position: Defensive end

 Current Projection: Mid-first round

Strengths: Watt has NFL-ready size and is expected to be an impact player his rookie year. He can succeed in both the 3-4 and 4-3 defenses. However, many experts have Watt playing in a 3-4 defense such as New England. 

Watt is an extremely tough linebacker that's physical and is aggressive. 

During his years at Wisconsin, he's gradually been putting on weight and muscle. Watt has exceptional strength, and carries his weight well—he's quick for his size. 

One of the biggest attributes that Watt possesses that fits the "Patriot mold" is leadership. Watt is a natural leader, and that's something that cannot be taught. 

Weaknesses: Watt needs to improve his tackling skills, as NFL running backs only get bigger. 

He does possess exceptional strength, but still needs to improve. He has a nice arsenal of pass rushing moves, but the power move is what he's lacking, which results in being overpowered by the offensive linemen. 

Conclusion: Watt would be a nice fit in New England, and has "Belichick" written all over him. 

He's a smart player. He's aggressive and a physical linebacker. 

Watt is stout against the run, which is key in the 3-4 defense, and he can put pressure on the quarterback.

Watt will add playmaking ability to New England's defense, and is NFL-ready with a ton of potential.
