2011 NFL Draft: Torrey Smith Among 10 Players Whose Stock Will Rise at Combine
The NFL Combine is set begin in Indianapolis, and for many draft hopefuls, it is do or die.
The Combine will separate skill from hype, ruin the reps of some, solidify the reps of others.
For a few, however, the Combine will force scouts to take a closer look.
Every year a few players leave the Combine with more buzz around their name then when they went in.
Here are 10 players who could see their stock rise.
Torrey Smith
1 of 10
Torrey Smith, the Wide Receiver from Maryland, has been called the most underrated player in the NFL Draft.
Scouts, however, are becoming aware of his record breaking ability.
Smith is considered an explosive play maker.
If he can show that at the combine expect him to go earlier then once thought.
Jerrel Jernigan
2 of 10
Jerrel Jernigan is fast.
The wide receiver from Troy can run the 40 yard dash in under 4.40 seconds.
Given how much publicity the 40 yard dash gets at the NFL Combine, if Jernigan shines, he could rise on some boards.
While at Troy, Jernigan was selected All–Conference as both a wide receiver and a returner.
Projected second round pick, Jernigan's speed could help him run into the first round.
Kyle Rudolph
3 of 10
Kyle Rudolph is a 6'6" tight end from Notre Dame.
Rudolph, former High School All–American, was injured for much of his college career.
In fact, he missed his junior season due to injury but decided to enter the NFL Draft anyway.
Scouts have not seen a lot of Rudolph so a good showing at the NFL Combine could make up for lost time.
Cameron Heyward
4 of 10
Cameron Heyward, defensive end from The Ohio State, has been rising up the board.
Heyward missed the Senior Bowl due to injury but will be at the NFL Combine.
If he can show some of his ability to pressure the quarter back and stop the run his stock may rise even more.
Tyron Smith
5 of 10
Tyron Smith was a two year stater at USC, at offensive tackle.
As of now he is projected to go at number 15 at the NFL Draft.
However, if he plays well at the NFL Combine, as he is expected to, Smith could rise into the top 10.
Damien Berry
6 of 10
Damien Berry, running back from Miami, is a projected seventh round pick.
The wonderful thing about the NFL Draft though, is even the guys who get picked late can end up making an impact.
Berry will be at the NFL Combine and if he can show scouts he has some agility to match his strength, his stock could rise.
Bruce Carter
7 of 10
Bruce Carter, outside line backer from UNC, was regarded as one of the top players in the country going into his senior year.
His excellent athleticism had scouts buzzing.
However, his senior year was a disappointment topped off by reconstructive surgery on his ACL.
If Carter can show scouts at the NFL Combine that he hasn't lost his edge he could go by the end of the first round.
Robert Quinn
8 of 10
Bruce Carter's teammate Robert Quinn, UNC's defensive end, has not played since 2009 after the NCAA found out he took some $5,000 in benefits.
Quinn, however, is still a projected top 10 pick.
Quinn's strength, explosiveness, and ability to shoot off the line, are all impressive.
If Quinn shows scouts what he would have done, had he not been suspended, while at the NFL Combine, believe it or not, he could be drafted even higher.
Andy Dalton
9 of 10
Andy Dalton, quarter back from TCU, has the intangibles: he is a smart player who has been able to win all through his college career.
But there is a question mark around Dalton's physical ability to compete in the NFL.
Can he handle NFL pressure on the quarter back? Is he quick enough to evade defenders? Does he have the arm strength?
Dalton has a chance to answer these questions for scouts at the NFL Combine. If he can. he may be able to move into the second round.
Tandon Doss
10 of 10
Tandon Doss, wide receiver from Indiana, is an underclassmen who ESPN's Todd McShay has reported, looks very good on film.
He is a projected second to third round pick in the NFL Draft.
At the NFL Combine, Doss will have a chance to show off his speed and his ability to make catches.
Scouts agree that Doss's best attribute are his hands.
If things go well, Doss may crack the first round.
