NFL Mock Draft: Predicting All 7 Rounds for the Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles are handcuffed by all of the talk of about the collective bargaining agreement like the rest of the NFL, but one event that will go on no matter what the labor relations are like is the 2011 NFL Draft.
While the Eagles had some real success last season, they still have some glaring holes to fill, and the draft will be a good way to fix some problems.
The offensive line, the secondary and the linebacking group are all places the Eagles need help, and Andy Reid has always had an eye for good players in the draft.
The following list is of the players the Eagles might be targeting in each round. Enjoy!
Round 1
1 of 7
Mike Pouncey, Offensive Lineman
The Philadelphia Eagles had troubles at times last season with their offensive line, and versatile lineman Mike Pouncey would be a great selection.
The line was struck by injuries and subpar play, and if it wasn’t for Mike Vick's ability to get out of trouble, it could’ve been worse.
Mike Pouncey would come in and instantly make an impact on an offensive line that needs another two pieces to make it great.
It also won't hurt having Howard Mudd, legendary offensive line coach for the Indianapolis Colts, on the Eagles staff.
Round 2
2 of 7
Jimmy Smith, Cornerback
He may not be there when the Eagles pick in the second round, but if the Eagles miss out on the Nnamdi Asomugha sweepstakes, then trading up in the draft to get Colorado’s Jimmy Smith would be a good idea.
Smith played for Colorado last season and was an absolute stud. His coverage skills and tackling abilities would be a great asset to an Eagles team whose secondary is poor at tackling.
The young cornerback would be a good complement to Asante Samuel and hopefully pick up the slack in the red-zone defense.
Round 3
3 of 7
Casey Matthews, Linebacker
If the hype around his brother doesn’t cause him to go super high, Casey Matthews may be a player the Eagles consider moving in the draft to get.
Matthews has the same style as his brother and his father, and is born to play football. If Casey is anything like Clay, his brother, then he will become a hot commodity.
The Eagles need help at linebacker and Matthews could be a real consideration at outside linebacker.
Round 4
4 of 7
Stefen Wisniewski, Offensive Lineman
Stefen Wisniewski is one of the most highly touted centers in the draft, but the market for centers is thin in the NFL.
The Penn State senior was the first three-time ESPN Academic All-American in the school's history, and his work ethic has been praised by coaches and scouts alike.
Wisniewski’s family has a history of athletics, and his size, speed and ability to maneuver on the line might make him a later-round steal for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Round 5
5 of 7
Joe Lefeged, Safety
With all the success of fellow Rutgers Scarlet Knight Devin McCourty, the hype around Joe Lefeged has been raised.
Lefeged is not of the same class as McCourty, but the similar style might lend to a solid playing career in the NFL.
With the possible departure of Quintin Mikell, a replacement might be necessary and the Scarlet Knight Lefeged might be a perfect fit for the Eagles' schemes.
Round 6
6 of 7
Ross Homan, Linebacker
From all of the scouting reports that I have seen, Ross Homan could be a diamond in the rough at outside linebacker.
His small stature ( 6’0”) will have him fall until very late in the draft, but that might be a blessing for the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles had trouble last year at linebacker, and Homan might be the wild-card answer that the team is looking for.
Round 7
7 of 7
Lee Ziemba, Offensive Lineman
This would be the ultimate steal for the Philadelphia Eagles, but they should do whatever they can to get Lee Ziemba.
The kid is 6’8” and a physical specimen on the offensive line. He played for Auburn and was a mammoth on their offensive line.
Reports say his technique is sloppy, but with a Hall of Fame offensive line coach in Howard Mudd, Ziemba would have the best teacher in the world.
