NHL Power Rankings: The Top Game 7 Moments

The NHL is filled with intensity, incredible skills and moments you never forget. Most of those moments we remember off the top of our head come from the playoffs, especially when it is Game 7 and both teams put everything on the line.

Here are some of the best Game 7 moments in the history of the NHL. 

Flyers Comeback Feomm 3-0 Down and 3-0 Down

The Flyers were down 0-3 in the series to the Boston Bruins. They fought back to win three straight and forced a game 7. Then the Flyers fell down 3-0 early in the first period of game 7 and it seemed the comeback would fall short by one game. Then four straight tallies by Van Riemsdyk, Hartnell, Briere and then Gagne for the game winner. 

Stephan Matteau Sends Rangers to Finals

Matteau puts one past the legendary Martin Brodeur to send the Rangers to the Cup Finals, where they would go on to win.

Cujo Saves, Marchant Scores

The Oilers were in a Game 7 against the heavily favored Dallas Stars. The Oilers didn't let ranking get the best of them, as they netted a goal in OT to move onto the semifinals.

San Jose Beats Detroit

In 1994, the Sharks made the playoffs for the first time in their franchise history. They went up against the best in the west, the Detroit Red Wings. No one gave them much of a chance, but with a crucial mistake by Detroit net minder Chris Osgood, they were able to knock them off in seven.

Carolina Scores 2 in 49 Seconds

The Hurricanes were up against the Devils in the first round of an East quarterfinal. The Devils had to hold on for just one more minute, but instead, Carolina netted two at the end of regulation to win the series.

Steve Yzerman Double Overtime Winner

The Red Wings and Blues faced off in the West semifinals in 1996. The game was scoreless in double overtime until Yzerman ripped one from the blue line and sent Detroit to the Conference Final.

Steve Smith Own Goal

The Oilers and Flames were battling to move on to the Campbell Conference Finals. Late in Game 7, it seemed the game might go into overtime. However, Smith accidentally banked it off Grant Fuhr's leg and it would be the game winner for the Flames.

Red Wings Beat Avs 7-0 in Game 7

The Red Wings and Avalanche were in a Game 7 to see who would play for Lord Stanley's Cup. The game was seen to be a close 1-0, 2-1 game, but it was anything but. The Red Wings lit up for four first period goals and after that, it was never in doubt for the Red Wings.

Tampa Bay Wins First Cup

The Tampa Bay Lightning and Calgary Flames were in the Cup Finals in 2004. For the Lightning, it was their first finals appearance, but it didn't matter, as they would go on to win the Cup. It was also Dave Andreychuck's first Stanley Cup in his last NHL season.

Rangers Win First Cup in 54 Years

The Rangers hadn't won a Cup since the 1940 season. In 1994, they had a chance to break the drought against the Vancouver Canucks. They did just that as they won Game 7, 3-2.
