SEC Power Poll Ballot, Week 4

David WunderlichSep 23, 2008

1. LSU

They have the best win so far, so they get the top spot on my ballot. I don’t have enough to really separate LSU, Florida, and Georgia just yet, so the resume overrules.

2. Florida

The vaunted offense has been coasting through most of the games so far, and UF has won by 46, 23, and 24 points. The defense and special teams have been championship caliber.

3. Georgia

Despite great games from Stafford, Moreno, and Green, UGA scored just seven more in Tempe than UNLV did in regulation. The SEC’s top three are close, so I have to resort to such nitpicking.

4. Alabama

The blowout of Arkansas would have looked great if this was 2006, but the Pigs have fallen far since then. I am anxious to see them play Georgia this weekend.

5. Auburn

I can’t drop them for losing to the other Tigers in the manner they did; they played the No. 1 team on my ballot evenly throughout. Scoring 21 on LSU is a step forward for the offense.

6. Vanderbilt

Vandy is ranked for the first time since before Regan was reelected, the NES hit American homes, and I was even born. Congrats so far, but there is a lot of football yet to be played.

7. South Carolina

Well, someone had to go seventh and I estimate the Gamecocks have the better losses between them and the Rebels. This is a team still working out deep issues.

8. Ole Miss

The team is definitely improved from last season, but turning it over on your final three drives does not inspire much confidence. They badly out-gained the ‘Dores, but 6 turnovers will kill you.

9. Tennessee

This team has no heart and appears to be in disarray. Only Eric Berry looks like he cares, and that’s probably because of the loads of NFL money he has coming in two years.

10. Kentucky

They are by far the easiest team to forget about in the conference. They had the good defensive game against Louisville, but nothing else is really that notable.

11. Arkansas

At least they beat Louisiana-Monroe.

12. Mississippi State

They did not beat their cupcake from Louisiana like Arkansas did and GT blew their doors off. Things have already crashed down to earth in Starkville.
