Cesc Fabregas: The Real Reason the Captain Is Hinting at Staying with Arsenal

Ryan RodgersFeb 19, 2011

Cesc Fabregas recently stated after Arsenal's big comeback win over Barcelona, "I'm showing I'm committed to this club and we want to do great things.  I want to continue working to improve and help us win trophies.  We are still fighting in all four competitions."

Barcelona and Fabregas have been flirting for quite some time now.  The run around and prolonged transfer saga have been occurring for the last few transfer windows.  Barcelona players, notably Xavi, have been quoted in The Sun stating, "Cesc is perfectly adapted, Barca has his DNA, he knows the club and how things work here."

Last year Cesc made his intentions clear by asking manager Arsene Wenger permission to rejoin his boyhood club.  So why the change of heart, and the outspoken commitment to Arsenal?

The real reason could be that Barcelona has their eyes on a new prospect.  The new target is English, not Spanish.  Aged at just Nineteen, Jack Wilshere arguably had the game of his life against Barcelona.  His maturity and confidence saw Wilshere put in the performance that resembled that of a 25-year-old.

Could the real reason Cesc Fabregas is now committing to Arsenal be due to the fact that Barcelona will soon be tapping up England's next savior?  Wilshere is five years younger than Cesc, and plays very similarly to his Spanish counterpart.  Wilshere excels in receiving the ball in tight areas, controlling the ball and playing forward.

It makes perfect sense that Jack Wilshere, the English version of Xavi and Iniesta, would be linked with Barcelona.  Although Barcelona has made no inquiry known, I for one would not be surprised if the new name coming out of Spain is Jack Wilshere, not Cesc Fabregas.
