NFL Rumors: Nnamdi Asomugha Looking for a New Island To Vacation On?

Joseph HigginsJun 2, 2018

When one of the league's best cornerbacks becomes available for virtually any team to pick up, there's going to be talk about where he might go and for what amount of money.

Thus far, Nnamdi Asomugha has been one of the most-watched free agents. There has been much thought given to which cornerbacks he can be paired up with around the league to make one of the most dangerous secondaries in the NFL.

However, now that Richard Seymour signed a new, big contract with the Raiders and the other free agent in the secondary, Stanford Routt, still hasn't decided what he wants to do yet, there are questions that still need to be answered.

Why would the Oakland Raiders not want to hold onto Asomugha? Does Nnamdi Asomugha want to stay in Oakland because Seymour is going to play another two years there? What teams are willing to go out and buy the kid?

Oakland Raiders

The safe choice here is to stick to the Raiders. Seymour will be back and if they re-sign Nnamdi Asomugha then they'll have two good defenders and can continue to have the No. 2 pass defense in the NFL next season.

Plus, Asomugha would be coached by former NFL great Rod Woodson, as he just stepped in as the new defensive backs coach.

The Raiders, whose defense didn't excel in any other categories (29th in rush yards per game and 20th in points per game), should want to keep a player like Asomugha—but it's ultimately Al Davis' decision.

Green Bay Packers

Imagine this secondary, it could be one of the best of decade: Sam Shields, Charles Woodson, Tramon Williams and lastly—Nnamdi Asomugha.

There are also other rumors going around that head coach Mike McCarthy might be getting a three-year extension to his contract. What this means is that there are now more possibilities of the Packers returning to the Super Bowl.

Why wouldn't Nnamdi Asomugha want to be a part of that?

Asante Samuel would love to have a partner of Nnamdi Asomugha's caliber in Philly. I'm not saying that Dimitri Patterson isn't a good cornerback, but given the choice of Patterson or Asomugha who would you pick?

The only reason why the Eagles would hesitate at going after Asomugha would be because of the contract they would need to give him to reel him in.

Philadelphia is already sporting a Pro Bowl cornerback in Samuel, so they would need to make an extra expense just to get Asomugha.
