NFL Lockout? There's Always Camp Freeman

Tom EdringtonFeb 15, 2011

Everyone's been beaten over the head with it as if it were a fat dead fish: there's a looming lockout by NFL owners if a new Collective Bargaining Agreement stalls.

Josh Freeman is taking a pre-emptive approach.

There will be mini-camps, perhaps, for these young Tampa Bay Buccaneers, lockout or not. There could be a Camp Freeman.

Freeman told the Tampa Tribune that if there's a lockout, he fully intends to hold his own workouts in March.

Big No. 5, like everyone else, is hopeful things will be resolved. "But if it doesn't, I've already been in contact with all our receivers and everybody's excited to come in March and get going. We're going to hit up a couple of the local high schools and work out that way."

Anyone out there who doesn't think this guy is a great leader?

Anyone out there willing to trade Josh Freeman for Tom Brady?

Fact is, Freeman showed his stuff last season and right now, the rest of the nation has taken notice of him and unlike last year when Peter King of Sports Illustrated predicted the Bucs might win two games, everyone is climbing on the Josh Freeman bandwagon.

Why not?

Who has a better arm? Who's bigger? Who can make plays like this guy?

It's a very, very short list.

Then you might want to ask all those questions and add: Who's his age among the short list?

You would think that at some point this year, the Players Union and the owners will work something out.

But until that happens, there's always Camp Freeman.
