Top 5 Trade Possibilities For The L.A Kings

Eddie TheisenFeb 13, 2011

The L.A Kings are one of the top teams in the trade market as the deadline approaches, and rumors are coming and going for the Kings.

Although many trade talks have been floating around—whether they refer to the Kings acquiring scoring or getting someone new between the pipes—here are the five possible scenarios that could play out in Hollywood.

1. Jarome Iginla

The Kings have talked about adding some offensive power to their roster, and Jarome Iginla could be the answer in L.A. He would add experience, leadership and a 973 point'scorer to the forwards' resume.

Possible trade options: In this type of deal anything could be traded from draft picks to all-star power, but I could see the Kings shipping off Michael Handzus, Alexi Ponikarovsky and a conditional draft pick for Iginla.

2. Ales Hemsky

This is another rumor surfacing in the Kings front office.

As said before, the Kings need some more offense in their game and Hemsky could bring just that. This 27-year-old Czech winger could also bring some playoff experience as he and the Oilers made that miraculous run in the 2006 playoffs where Hemsky scored 17 points in 24 playoff games.

Also, if the trade is made, he could make a long-term stay in California, making the trade more than a part-time job.

Possible trade options: I think the Oilers would want some experience on their young roster. They could want Rob Scuderi or possibly Justin Williams. Some draft picks could also be involved with this trade, but I think the Kings will not want to give up too much for Hemsky.

3. Brad Richards

This is a guy who has had his name thrown around in multiple scenarios, including the Maple Leafs, Kings or even staying in Dallas long term.

But if the Kings want to take the next step in their franchise, signing Brad Richards would be one step in the right direction.

Possible trade options: I don't think the Kings will be looking to get rid of big talent like Anze Kopitar, Dustin Brown or Drew Doughty.

Then again, Wayne Gretzky was traded so I would not be surprised by any trade in the rest of NHL history.

Also, if Dean Lombardi sees the price is right in a trade like this he might just pull the trigger, but most likely I see players like Marco Sturm, Ryan Smyth, Jarret Stoll or Rob Scuderi getting moved with some prospects or draft picks.

There has been a lot of speculation suggesting Jonathan Quick is not the man for the job for the LA Kings in net.

At an age of only 25, Florida would love a young, exuberant talent like Quick with some other talent.

Possible trade options: Well, the given here for the first part is Jonathan Quick and then also maybe players like Wayne Simmonds and Marco Sturm could go with him for this trade.

Florida has been in a rebuilding stage for so long you can even wonder if you can call it rebuilding anymore with 8 seasons straight of missing the playoffs.

The Panthers would like some young talent that can put the puck in the net with possibilities of Stephen Weiss moving cities and Rostislav Olesz going to the Blackhawks in a 5 player trade.

5. Martin Havlat

There has been a lot noise coming out of Minnesota that they may use Martin Havlat as trade bait. The Kings could use his natural scoring talent upfront as they have one of the best Defensive cores in the league and just need help on the goal scoring side.

Possible trade options: The Kings could possibly deal off Wayne Simmonds and Brayden Schenn for this trade as Minnesota could get these two without too much of a cap hit. Or if the Kings want to team him up with a player like Simmonds they could give a prospect or two with a draft pick.
