2011 NFL Draft: Top 10 Quarterbacks
There is a lot of talent in this years quarterback class for the 2011 NFL Draft. That's a good thing for NFL teams because many of them could use a franchise quarterback.
History has shown that if teams don't have a franchise quarterback they most likely won't make it to the Super Bowl, which is every teams goal year in and year out.
Here are my top 10 quarterbacks in the 2011 NFL Draft.
10. Tyrod Taylor, Senior: Virginia Tech Hokies
1 of 10
Height: 6'1''
Weight: 215
A mobile quarterback who makes smart decisions with the football. Has good arm strength and is very accurate throwing downfield. Could fill in for an injured starter and win games at the next level.
9. Andy Dalton, Redshirt Senior: TCU Horned Frogs
2 of 10
Height: 6'3''
Weight: 220
Has improved his accuracy and decision making. Can perform under pressure. Not the strongest arm in the world but it gets there. Comparable to Shaun Hill of the Lions. Knows how to win and is a leader.
8. Ricky Stanzi, Redshirt Senior: Iowa Hawkeyes
3 of 10
Height: 6'4''
Weight: 220
Good size for a quarterback. Greatly improved his decision making his senior year at Iowa. Could potentially start in the NFL. Pretty accurate and has above-average arm strength.
7. Colin Kaepernick, Redshirt Senior: Nevada Wolf Pack
4 of 10
Height: 6'6''
Weight: 225
Tall, lanky quarterback with good mobility. Ran the ball a lot in college while running the spread option. Very raw prospect with potential. Has a strong arm and is accurate throwing the ball. Could be picked in late first or early second round.
6. Pat Devlin, Redshirt Senior: Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens
5 of 10
Height: 6'4''
Weight: 220
Highly touted coming out of high school. Transferred to Delaware after limited action at Penn State. Put up great stats at Delaware leading them to the FCS Championship game, losing by a point to Eastern Washington. Great accuracy.
5. Jake Locker, Senior: Washington Huskies
6 of 10
Height: 6'2''
Weight: 230
His draft stock has fallen since he decided not to come out for the 2010 NFL Draft. Many considered him to be the No. 1 overall selection. Now there are concerns about his accuracy. Great athlete. Strong arm. Must show he is willing to work hard to get better. Has the potential to be a franchise quarterback in the NFL.
4. Ryan Mallett, Redshirt Junior: Arkansas Razorbacks
7 of 10
Height: 6'7''
Weight: 240
Strongest arm in the draft. Has improved accuracy. Played against tough competition in the SEC. Put up very good numbers while at Arkansas. Not very mobile and there are questions about his mental capacity of knowing an NFL playbook. Could eventually be the best quarterback to come out of this draft.
3. Christian Ponder, Redshirt Senior: Florida State Seminoles
8 of 10
Height: 6'2''
Weight: 225
Doesn't have the greatest arm strength but has all the intangibles. Excellent leader. When he's zoned in, he's deadly accurate. Torched a top ranked North Carolina Tar Heel defense his junior year. Also can escape the pocket and run.
2. Cameron Newton, Junior: Auburn Tigers
9 of 10
Height: 6'6''
Weight: 250
Freakish athlete with freakish size. Has a lot of potential. Strong arm. Needs to improve on accuracy and decision making. Makes plays happen. Needs to become a more mature person. Could be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL after three to five years.
1. Blaine Gabbert, Junior: Missouri Tigers
10 of 10
Height: 6'5''
Weight: 235
Great size. Spread style quarterback in college. Must learn to adjust to pro style offense. Can make all the throws. Decent accuracy. High risk, high reward. May not develop into a great quarterback.
