Floyd Mayweather Knocks Out Manny Pacquiao...on Twitter
On Saturday morning, February 12th, 2011, undefeated top pound-for-pound American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. decided to make a statement to all of his Twitter followers, posting three tweets about Filipino boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao, the current pound-for-pound champion.
Verbatim, here are the three tweets from FloydMayweather:
"Pacquiao vs. Rustico Torrecampo: http://youtu.be/9CdXikZdGzo"
"Pacquiao vs. Medgoen Singsurat: http://youtu.be/O4qwBzJKrXY"
"Pacquiao vs Erik Morales: http://youtu.be/ZbyosYCPjps"
Mayweather posted YouTube video links to Manny Pacquiao's three career losses. As many of us know, the first two were knockouts and the third was to a (then) technically superior Morales.
After these tweets, hundreds of Mayweather's nearly one million Twitter followers began to laugh and cheer him on. His fans seem to be content with Mayweather fighting Pacquiao only on Twitter.
Except for one, and that man's name is KING J.
As a fan and Twitter follower of Floyd Mayweather, I was the only one keeping it real enough to make the following tweets back to him.
Again verbatim, here are my replies from KingJ323:
"RT@FloydMayweather: 'Pacquiao vs. Rustico Torrecampo: http://youtu.be/9CdXikZdGzo' -- LMAO Floyd as ur fan just fight Manny instead doin this"
"@FloydMayweather as your fan who can keep it REAL. just fight Manny that's the ultimate way to prove once and for all you the best"
Now, again, Mayweather has almost one million Twitter followers, but most of them are Floyd fan-boys whom many would consider to be the Internet slang term for "nut-hugger."
If they were true fans who actually want Mayweather to succeed in the ring, they'd be encouraging him to fight and cheering him on in the ring, instead of encouraging him to fight on Twitter or make disgraceful USTREAM videos that only alienate his fan base and make it harder to be a true fan.
Again: Floyd, as your fan, either sign up to fight Pacquiao or keep his name out of your mouth.
I used to think you could out-box Pacquiao with ease, but the more you do things like bash Pacquiao on Twitter and make ignorant/racist/homophobic rants on USTREAM, the more I truly and deeply question whether you can beat him.
Forget about the fake drug-free crusade in which you all of a sudden cared about cleaning up the sport. Whatever happened to that, by the way?
Is your drug-free crusade only on when you fight? Only for your opponents?
Just sign the contract and prove to your real fans, those who are dying to see you get back in the ring, that you're as good as we remember.
Make it easy to be a fan of yours once again. If not Pacquiao, fight someone we care about seeing you fight.
Really, I do enjoy seeing you spend your cash on lavish things. It's rather inspiring.
But the greatest tweet a true Mayweather fan could read would say that you're getting back in that ring ASAP, against someone we can enjoy seeing you fight.
Just in case you haven't read it yet, for the record Mayweather does need Pacquiao more than Pacquiao needs Mayweather, as I pointed out in the REAL TALK in this previous article:
