Alex Smith As Quarterback and the San Francisco 49ers: A Tempest in a Teapot?

The argument over Alex Smith and the 49ers is all a tempest in a teapot—speculation based on emotional responses, standing on the bow of the speedboat and aiming the discharge into the wind.

Facts are discarded outright as immaterial or are chosen to support the current argument. Predictions are made without anyone having an accurate crystal ball.  

Speculations based on air are put forward as heavy thoughts when a breeze of fact could dispel them with ease. People with vagrant thoughts spit them out and distribute hand towels for the listener to wipe their faces with.

Let's stick to the facts, folks and allow history to show us what will really happen.

The NFL is currently moribund, asleep; taking time off while preparing for labor unrest, revolts against public funding of arenas and owner greed run amok.

How this all will work out is neither clear nor predictable. 

The issue will work itself out without any input from this or any other media venue being considered. We have, in short, no dog in this fight.

The 49ers organization will not consider even one of these articles or even one of the fan responses before making their decision about the quarterback position for the next season.

So here is my suggestion for fans and pundits alike:

Relax and enjoy the offseason.

Take the family out for breakfast or fire up the barbie, pop a bottle cap and talk about something on which you may have an effect, like international relations, domestic politics, religion or sex.
