Vegas Says Prepare Yourself For Life Without Football, NFL Lockout Betting Odds

David MasonFeb 10, 2011

The NFL season has been over for just a few days now and I already miss it. Using Vegas as a barometer, I better get used to the possibility of life without the NFL.

The fastest growing sportsbook in the U.S., BetOnline.com, just opened numerous NFL lockout betting odds. And after a quick glance, it looks like I might have to come up with a new hobby come early September.

NFL fans received horrible news today with the cancellation of day two of the two-day bargaining meeting. In about three weeks, March 3rd, the current collective bargaining agreement expires; there is little time to waste. Yet the billionaire owners obviously think otherwise.

Jerry Jones and the rest of the fat cats want a bigger piece of the approximately $9 billion league revenues. Additionally, they want a pay scale for rookies. Although, I myself can’t argue with that considering JaMarcus Russell pulled in millions for doing absolutely nothing except getting fat.

The owners also want to extend the season to 18 games. Hey, I’m cool with this too; anything to extend the NFL betting season a couple of weeks and I’m all for it. However, considering what a violent game football is, it might not be the best of ideas. If they do go to 18 games, you’d have to wonder if ‘player safety’ was really as much of a concern as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell always claims.

The Players Union, on the other hand, seems to want the status-quo. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…

So which side will win out? Way too early to tell, but BetOnline obviously thinks we should prepare ourselves for life without the NFL. Here are their NFL lockout odds:

If there is a lockout, how many games will be lost?
