Carle plays a big part in giving back to his community at home in Anchorage, Alaska and across the Philadelphia area.

Matt Carle has made a pledge that if he gets 10,000 followers on the popular media site Twitter, he will donate $10,000 to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Carle’s Twitter page reads: “Would like to donate some $$$ to a local charity, if I get 10k followers by the end of the reg. season, I'll donate $10k to C.H.O.P. [Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia].”

The idea to do the promotion on Twitter was not Carle’s; instead, it was an idea from inside the Flyers organization.

“I just wanted to do something to get people aware and give back,” Carle said. “It was an idea that I saw from a couple of guys and I thought it was cool.”

His latest act of kindness has been met with some skepticism from the media, though.

From the popular blog Puck Daddy featured on Yahoo.com, contributor Dmitry Chesnokov was more critical of the way Carle went about the situation.

“Seriously, @mattcarle25 [Matt Carle’s Twitter name], can't you just donate to @ChildrensPhila [Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Twitter account] without 10k followers?” Chenokov said on his Twitter account. “If I were rich I'd donate without making it a big deal.”

While Chesnokov didn’t agree with the way Carle went about trying to donate, he was adamant about Carle’s wording.

“He mentioned the hospital ONCE in the last 7 days on twitter. That's awareness?” Chesnokov said.

Everything that happens nowadays can be put out there for all to see and it was just unfortunate it went this far.

“Anything you do isn’t going to make everybody happy,” Matt Carle said. “I didn’t know there was an unwritten rule on Twitter that this was something you couldn’t do.”

Matt Carle still plans to donate no matter how many followers he has and will continue to give back to his community in Alaska and the Philadelphia community.

Please feel free to join Matt Carle in trying to raise money for a great cause, follow him @MattCarle25 on Twitter.com.
