Chicharito Hernandez: Manchester United Player of the Month for January 2011

Roberto Alvarez-GallosoFeb 8, 2011

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez has won the first Manchester United Player of the Month Award for 2011. It is also the second time he has won the award.

He received 69 percent of the 33,000 votes that were cast. The reasons have been multiple but have included his participation in the matches between Manchester United against teams like West Brom, Southampton, Stoke City and Blackpool.

Hernandez scored winning strikes against West Brom and Southampton. He saved Manchester United from defeat by scoring an equalizer in the match against Blackpool.

The equalizer against Blackpool encouraged Manchester United to score another goal in a come-from-behind victory.

Manchester United appears to have been enjoying a rise in its stature this season since the arrival of Javier Hernandez.

He has scored goals and played under pressure. Hernandez is also learning from the best at Manchester United. At the same time, the Red Devils have grown fond of him.

When it was rumored that Jose Mourinho of Real Madrid wanted him, many supporters of the Red Devils (at least the ones I talk with in Miami Florida) were opposed to such changes or laughed it off.

I am also glad that Manchester United has Javier (Chicharito) Hernandez in their team. He has served as a role model for the youth of the world and has managed to dispel stereotypes about Mexicans and Latins.

The only exception has been the BBC program called "Top Gun," which has insulted Mexicans and Latins (in my opinion).

My congratulations to Javier (Chicharito) Hernandez for being named Player of the Month for January, 2011.
